Before I started my collage, I did some research to help me better understand collages. I have seen some collages that I found to be very good, because of the way the subject is presented. For example, I saw a design written in French about the Garden. The designer sent a message that it should be done with a garden because of the color used, and the picture/picture.

After looking at different photos, I looked at photos I took of an old store in Englishtown. I came up with a story, where the story has to do with desire. I used open books and posters that I found, to help me craft my story. I made two collages, one for the comp and one for the final design. I believe they could be better, but this is what I have for each collage.

A week before I started this job, I was in Manhattan going to the Metropolitan Museum for another class. Throughout my travels, I have discovered that there are buses and scooters that can accommodate people in wheelchairs. The first place I looked was inside the bus I was on, in the side window. Main seats are for people with disabilities. I always wanted to do something to help, so I came up with the idea of my name called HandiBus. HandiBus is an application that lists various buses in NYC (Manhattan specifically) that can accommodate people in wheelchairs. The app shows where the buses are on the map, and how long the buses will take to get to the bus station (how many stops there are, and how many minutes it will take the bus to arrive).

In my research I look at which buses are wheelchair accessible. I noticed that the MTA that runs through the 5 Boroughs of NYC has their own wheelchair schedule.

In my ‘From Here to There’ project, I want to teach transfer students what they need and the basics of Visual Communication Design. I want to make a packet, with cards that give instructions to transfer students. Some tips I would like to include, is how to start research and what research should be included before starting a project, what thumbnail images and what they do in the project, and other things. to see how their past experiences compare to their current experiences.

In my pack design research, I decided to focus on the flashcard pack as much as possible, because I wanted to create a pack of flashcards that give students transfer tips on three topics, Visual Communication Design. I’m still looking at different types of packages, because I want to make the package useful and interesting. Under the Quixote package is another direction that I find interesting, because the recipient of the package will have an easy time opening it. There is a hole where a person’s finger will lift the lid where the button opens.

After looking at different websites to see how the product is packaged, I found this youtube video showing the different packages. Most of them are very well done, which I was surprised to see.

As I continued my research, I came across a package design blog with useful information on packaging and product packaging. My blog that I posted below contains important information such as, “how to choose good packaging”, “line up your printer” to print in different formats, etc.

After all the internet research I did, I interviewed a few transfer students (now friends) to get their answers on the main things. I asked them to give me tips and advice that they would like other aspiring Visual Communication Design students to know. They all agreed that they learned more on the job at Montclair State University than they did at their previous colleges, because our work was more challenging and difficult than they had to do. For example, Max and Diana said they were surprised when they heard about using blogs to share work and research. Emily knew blogs were necessary, because of the needs Pratt had for their readers. Together, they tell me that there is a lot of work to be done when it comes to design. A lot of time is spent on each stage of the design. Anyway, Max spoke very intelligently when I interviewed him. He explained that design never ends, something will be restored and renewed. I agree with it
