Creative Calligraphy Ideas – Here’s Rachel Doan (@rachelbujo) with a tutorial on using fake calligraphy in a bullet journal:

When I was a beginner in modern calligraphy, I just couldn’t get my letters perfect all the time. There were VOV and UGH times during this initial trip. Not too long ago, I saw a quote on Kelly Kreis’ Instagram that said: “Fake it till you make it.” YES  When you want a WOV calligraphy in your journal but are afraid it will end up UGH and ruin your beautiful page, then do fake calligraphy.

Creative Calligraphy Ideas

In this tutorial, I want to share with you how I created fake calligraphy for my June front page in just three easy steps. It’s pretty simple, but effective. I hope I can help some of you when you feel insecure about your writing skills like I do.

5 Romantic Ideas For Valentine’s Lettering

Step 1: First, you need to differentiate between up and down jumps. Let’s write the word “June” with a fine pen or any type of pen you have. I love using Kelli Creates fineliners, which are my all-time favorite. As you can see in this image, all strokes of the up arrow are up, and conversely, all strokes of the down arrow are down. Simple, right?

Step 2: Now you only have to worry about landing. Usually the upper strokes are very thin, while the lower strokes are very thick. We’ll make them bolder by adding parallel lines next to each downward stroke.

Step 3: Next, we fill in the gaps between each set of parallel lines. Just try to make it look as smooth as possible, because smooth lines look like real calligraphy. After doing this step, you have successfully created fake calligraphy.

In the last picture, I want to share with you some more ideas that make this beginner calligraphy more lively and interesting. Or use different colors to light it up, create effects or just add fun details. Calligraphy is an art form that allows people to express their creativity with letters, so why not have fun with it? Hope you like this guide and please share with me if you can. Thank you very much.

Using a pencil and a piece of rough paper, outline your floral design. We’ve used a floral design here, but you can adapt it to any theme or pattern.

We recommend sketching out your design first so you can get an idea of the space and make sure your design fits your paper. We outlined our floral design on one side to leave room for our calligraphy on the other.

When you’re happy with your sketch, grab a Duotip marker and use the fine tip to outline your flowers. We used a black Duotip marker, but you can use any color you like.

We are still working on the design of the sketches to make sure we are happy with it before moving on to our final piece.

Once you’re happy with your design, transfer it to your card. You can either go over your original test sketch or redraw your design on the card.

By sketching your design again, you can make some changes and improve what you didn’t like so much the first time.

We decided to fill in only parts of the design to try to provide enough white space. In the next step we’ll be adding more colors, so it’s important to start with less because you can always add more.

Creative Ways To Keep Busy In Lockdown

Using another color, fill in the rest of the design. Remember to keep it ‘rough’ and ‘messy’ as this will help your design look unique.

We chose a modern calligraphy style, but you can add any style to your design. Using our favorite Principal Nib, write your design. You can use a ruler to create some calligraphy guidelines, but if you don’t need them, you can skip this step.

My favorite pens of all time are Tomb’s Dual Brush Pens. They are perfect for those delicious thick strokes and I love the huge range of colors they offer, there is something for everyone.

I used their black pen to write the Spooktacular card below. I used the tip of a writing brush and switched to a fine tip to draw simple ghosts in the background. This would be a perfect card for late October birthdays.

Another absolute favorite are my Pentel Brush Sign Pens. They are great for thinner fonts and can be easier for beginners to work with. I used olive green from their range and wrote this fall card. I used a gold fine tip pen to draw some of the leaf elements in the background. A simple yet effective look.

I usually get blank cards from the paper box, they come in a great variety of different sizes and colors.

Try adding ink splashes or hand-painted pumpkins to your Halloween cards, signs or posters. I outlined the pumpkins with a Micron pencil and colored them with Scarlet Tomb’s Brush Pen (925).

Halloween gift tags can add a special touch to trick-or-treating with candy bags, cookies, and small gifts. I love the look of these simple craft markers with a black Pentel pen. Try to use short phrases of 1-3 words that fit the size of this tag.

If you have a watercolor palette, try painting some fall elements like leaves, branches, berries, and mushrooms. They can transform the design of your letters and make them more.
