Breast Cancer Awareness Shirts Using The Cricut Maker

Making t-shirts could quickly become my new obsession! Last week, I used my new cutting machine to make my son’s birthday t-shirt for our color-themed birthday party. I’m so excited about how it turned out! Ever since I got my Cricut Explore for Christmas, I’ve been dying to try Cricut’s Iron-on Lite. *This is not a sponsored post. These are the products I choose to use because they look good 🙂

For our color-themed birthday party, I made my daughter a bright and colorful tutu dress (I’ll share it soon!) and I wanted to make it for my son too something themed. I remembered the t-shirt he wore as a kid that had crayons with faces and arms that read “I color outside the lines” and decided that statement would be perfect!

I designed the image in Photoshop and then turned it into an SVG file to work with my slicer. You can get the free cutting file for this DIY kids t-shirt at the bottom of this post!

The t-shirt is from Target, the Cat & Jack Classic Baseball T-Shirt in Striped Blue and I found the Cricut Iron-On Lite in pumpkin at Joann Fabrics. My son loved the shirt and was happy to have something special to wear on his big day.

How To Make Graphic T-shirts In Cricut Design Space

This was my first time trying to use the Cricut Iron-On and I was surprised at how easy it was! I don’t own a Cricut Easy Press so I used my iron and it worked fine. I just make sure that if a small corner of the vinyl is still peeling off, I keep pressing it!

Step One: Download the free SVG cut file and upload it to Cricut Design Space (or your cutting machine software). In Cricut Design Space, resize the image to the height and width you want your shirt to be. For my son’s shirt which is S(6/7), I made the image 7 inches wide. First I cut the image out of paper to help me determine the size.

After selecting “GO”, flip the image by checking the “Mirror Image” checkbox. For more information on how to use the Cricut Iron-On, watch this quick 3-minute video that I found helpful, Cricut Explore: Working with Iron-On Lite. It goes into detail about installation, how to place materials on the carpet, and more.

Step three: Once your image is cut and cleaned, place it on a t-shirt to iron. I used my Applique Press Sheet as a pressing fabric and it worked well. (Update: I now use the very similar Cricut Iron-On protector). Since it’s transparent, I can still see my image through it and make sure to iron each part while keeping it straight. I used some straight pins to keep the image in place.

Valentine’s Day T Shirts For Boys With Cricut

You may have noticed I made a small mistake! Ouch! I forgot to erase the oval on my chalk! I fixed this by adding a piece of turquoise Iron-On Lite, cut to the same size as the oval. It works well and adds color! I guess a bug the first time I tried it wasn’t too bad 🙂

Design Your Own ‘pumpkin Patch’ T-shirts For Cricut

For exact instructions for each shirt design, check out this Science Shirts for Boys post and this Boys’ Jungle T-Shirts post. Here I’ll show you how I made my ‘I love you to the Moon and Back’ design to get started!

Start by loading your plain paper onto a lightweight mat and inserting your Infusible Ink pen into the left cartridge slot.

Upload the project linked above and make sure you click ‘Enable ironing mirror’. I have a screenshot below of what it looks like.

Set your smart switch to ‘Paper’ then follow the prompts. You’ll ‘Load’ then press the Cricut button and watch it work its magic!

Diy Children’s T-shirt With Cricut Iron-on

Take your Infusible Ink t-shirt and place the cardboard inside the shirt. This protects the design from transferring to the back of your shirt.

Next, you will place the paper that you used the pen face down on your shirt where you want it. Make sure the side with the ink is the side that comes into contact with the shirt.

Be careful not to move the iron, shirt, or paper, or you may create a blurred image. Once the timer is up, lift the iron straight up. Your paper and shirt are still warm, so ink can still spill if you move things around too much.

After the paper cools, remove the paper and the sheet with ink on it. You will get a sharp design as shown below.

There you have it! Beautiful shirt for Valentine’s day. Don’t get me wrong, I made these for my son, but I would totally wear these six designs!
