What I love about these mugs is that instead of sitting on top like vinyl or markers, the permanent ink melts onto the surface. That means these mugs are chip-resistant, smudge-resistant, and dishwasher and microwave safe! Here’s how to create your own.
This is the most important step, because you can decide exactly what you want to put on the item. There are many pre-made images in the Design Space app, including individual designs designed to rotate or rotate. You can also add more customization by adding text to an existing mug packaging design, using an uploaded image like a logo or character, or creating and uploading your own artwork.

Step 2: Size your design to fit the mug, then use a Cricut machine to cut the design from the Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets.
You can use solid colors or use some pretty patterned coloring sheets. Place the colored sheet face up on the cutting mat. Be sure to mirror the pattern before cutting! Then press “Go” and the machine will do its magic. Note that the color will be brighter after the color is heated.
If you’re using a mug packaging design, it should already be sized correctly for your mug. If it says “large” make sure you use a 15oz cup. “Small” is 12 oz. If you put the individual design on one side, it should be no more than 3 inches square. My ‘A’ is 2.80. The maximum design dimensions for a full package are as follows: 12 oz mug – 8.75″ x 3.79″, 15 oz mug – 8.75″ x 4.25″.

This means removing all the color you don’t want to transfer to the amplifier. If you do a “normal” design, leaving only your words or shapes, you shave the back. Don’t forget letter centers like ‘o’ and ‘e’!
You can also choose to make a negative design (like the “I love you more” example, which means that you remove the letters or images, leaving the rest of the color sheet. This will make the words / images white and the rest of the cup will be colored.
Turn your design over and look at it from the other side. Make sure everything (except the color) looks the way you want it to look.
Use a sticky roller or tape to remove dust or debris from the mud surface and apply the pattern. Make sure it’s exactly where you want it, then stick it on the adhesive. You can use heat resistant tape to hold small models in place.

First, preheat the car. The machine will automatically adjust to fit whatever size you are using (12oz or 15oz). It also automatically sets the right temperature and duration, so all you have to do is wait until all five lights on the top light up and the cup beeps to indicate it’s done. The process takes about six minutes.
Place it in a heat-resistant place and resist the urge to touch it, because everything except the hand will be very hot! Once cooled, gently peel off the adhesive, leaving the paint permanently embedded in the mold.
Once the jar has cooled, it is ready to wash and use. Not only are you microwave and dishwasher safe, it’s also completely food safe and non-toxic. Unlike the cups made with markers, it is safer to put your mouth in places with colorful designs.

To get started, create a new project in Cricut Design Space. Click on ‘Images’ and search for ‘Tropical Alphabet’ or ‘#MFFB7DFD’. You will see this collection of images. Click the letter you want to use to add it to your project.
You can resize the monogram to fit my 4 inch height. Now you can click “Make” to send it to your Cricut!

To create my glass I used a variety of permanent colored vinyl I had on hand, but you can use any color you like.
Design space requires you to transfer your vinyl before each piece is cut. I edited my vinyl tracks when the next one was cut. (Loss is when you remove excess vinyl from the cut pattern.)
After all the pieces are cut, finish all the weeds and apply a piece of transfer tape to each. This will help them to transfer well to the cup.
Now, simply use the Cricut monogram image as a guide and apply each layer of vinyl to your mirror.
What Is The Best Cricut Vinyl For Coffee Mugs?
For my mirror, I thought my design was getting a little heavy so I started skipping one layer. I love the finished product! Watch my video to see how I made this DIY flower mirror:
After applying each layer, be sure to smooth it thoroughly and avoid touching the back of each vinyl decal with your hands to ensure proper adhesion.
These mugs are hand washable only, but you can apply a coat of Mod Podge to your finished design to seal them completely. I usually leave mine alone and remind my friends to hand wash their mugs to keep them looking brand new.
