Curtain Design Ideas Bay Window – My relationship with the shuttered windows in our living room has always been a love/hate relationship. That’s why finally, after 3 years of living in this house, I’m happy to finally have the living room window treatments of my dreams from Couture Living.
Owning a 1930’s home has many advantages. These well-built homes have plenty of time to add character, and are usually spacious as townhouses go. They also often have these beautiful arched windows, often called “sun bays” designed to bring the sun into the room, no matter how high it is in the sky.

Over the years, we’ve had our fair share of monochromatic curtains. From the pink shorts we inherited from the previous owner (they ended up being torn all over the place during the living room renovation) to some gray IKEA rugs that didn’t have any shape, but “will do” poorly sewn. or behavior
Curtain Ideas For Bay Windows (and Other Strange Arrangements)
It was longer than I needed to get replacement curtains for this window, like getting the right frames and finishing the room.
We were delighted to work with Couture Living to renovate our living room window. Couture Living offers high quality curtains and blinds, handmade here in the UK.
With more than 30 years of experience creating the best show homes, Couture Living’s wealth of high-quality designer fabrics makes finding a design for your room a breeze, especially if, like me, you have a clear idea of the fabric. type. or the design you’re looking for (William Morris, even!)
If you’ve ever ordered custom made curtains, it can be a little intimidating. The process where you make an appointment, take the time, have the dealer come measure you and give you a quote, seems forced to me. I can’t make good design decisions without getting a bunch of samples sent and sleeping through the ideas first.
How To Hang Bay Window Curtains + My Favorite Sage Green Curtains! — Gathered Living
Although Couture Living offers full service sizing, design and fitting, we chose to measure ourselves using their simple sizing guides and order on their website. I mean we shouldn’t be in a rush, I could order several samples which will give you an instant idea of the price if you are working on a budget.
We chose the Morris & Co print, Strawberry Thief in Dove which is 100% linen. The soft, neutral colors in the sample worked well with the Skimming Stone and Wimborne White color scheme in our living room, plus the print itself isn’t as busy as other curtains.
When ordering curtains, Couture Living offers you a choice of several different curtain styles, from double and triple blinds to cup and curtain. We chose a deep pencil pleat which costs less than a pinch pleat and allows more room to move around if the dimensions are short.
A note about the lining: We opted for a satin lining, and in retrospect, I don’t think we needed it. The quality of the exterior (the Morris cloth) is so high that a normal satin lining would have sufficed.

Linings add weight to the curtains you order, so I recommend that you check this carefully with the fabric of the watch you get and depending on the room / lighting you need. Opaque clothing, for example, is ideal for the bedroom.
Perfectly packaged (it’s the little things) Couture Living aims to deliver your order within 2-3 weeks, which is very fast when you consider that all orders are handmade.
Our delivery took a little longer as the fabric I chose was out of stock, but I wanted to wait a few weeks to find exactly what I knew would work well in the room.
You can immediately appreciate the beauty of these curtains when you lift them up. They are heavy and luxurious. With that said, I would say it’s a two person job to hang a curtain frame on a window our size.
Blinds & Shades For Bay, Bow & Corner Windows
Before hanging, I ironed the curtains following the instructions and care guidelines that Couture Living includes with your order. Here’s a little tip from Neil’s mother, who has ordered many vintage curtains in her time: hang the freshly pressed curtains on a curtain rod or rail, then place the strips the way you want them to hang. Tie them up with ribbon or ties for three days and they will keep the folds for years to come.
To increase the light that enters the room when the curtains are open, a good trick is to drill the curtain hooks in a place where you can pull the curtains well back with the curtain rods. This not only allows more light into the room, but I think it gives that finishing touch and adds style and beauty to the window. These are just some simple fabrics we picked up and curtain ties we had in the attic of our previous home.
I am very happy with our new William Morris curtains in this room. The whole process showed me the importance of window dressing to complete the whole design of the room and the house. Although we worked with Couture Living as a partner for this and we were provided with fabrics, I am now looking more into traditional curtains as a window dressing solution for other rooms in our house. Investing in traditional curtains is something to consider if you have a large or difficult to dress window like ours. It will save you time, money and guarantee you a look that brings you happiness.
A big thank you to Couture Living for providing us with the curtains of my dreams, and we recommend checking out their website if you are looking for curtains or blinds for any room in your home.

Previous Turning an old cowshed into a cozy home Next Next Lifting the lid on what it’s like to renovate a home during Covid 19 Today is not the first time to talk about curtains. In fact, curtains are something that I usually dedicate (at least) an article to every time we travel. How come? Because it is one of the few things that never (doesn’t) change from one house to another. Not only do we often encounter different window widths, widths, and numbers from house to house, but we also deal with different styles and layouts. In our current home, we have not one but two different window conditions that we have never dealt with before: bay windows and bow windows! Today I want to share some window curtain ideas and talk about why we went the way we did. Plus, you’ll get to (finally!) see how our first planet is being formed!
The first floor of the house has three windows: two at the front of the house (on either side of the front door) and one at the back. When we first saw the MLS listings, I immediately noticed the… um… “nice” window treatments. I prayed that the owners would release them or take them away. Not so luckily. When we moved in, we had three sets of custom, decorative window treatments.
Side Rant: Nothing makes me madder than landlords leaving things out of the rental, especially window treatments. It’s happened to us time and time again, and we always end up taking them and keeping them in a safe place until we go out again. My guess is that the owners think they are being respectful by leaving

On the windows instead of nothing. But (in my opinion) if there are some privacy covers, nothing needs to be left for the tenants to “live in”, save, keep or replace. Homeowners: Please treat windows the same way you treat walls or floors! Sorry…it’s over!
When we finally entered the house myself, I even laughed at my father (who knew that most of our house was decorated in blue) and said, “You don’t want to bring curtains to the family room because there are already blue curtains here!”
We never had windows in any of our houses, and to be honest I didn’t know what kind of curtains to put on them. So…I did a little research before buying anything or pulling out a drill. I actually found two helpful posts by Emily Henderson that guided my decisions. These two posts not only cover window options, but also suggestions for different types of window settings. I recommend you read it if you have windows and don’t know how to dress them.
After reading these two posts, as well as looking at many ideas on Pinterest, I decided that there are three main ways to do it.
