Decor Ideas Diy Art – I share DIY wall art that I have in my own home to suit a modern decorating style. These 12 projects will update your wall decor on a budget!
In my house, I have maybe 2 pieces of wall decor that are not DIY. I love how I can get custom pieces exactly what I want in the size I want on the budget I want with just a little DIY.
Decor Ideas Diy Art
When I’m working on a room design, sometimes I have art that I know I want to work on, but most of the time… I design the big things in the room and then figure out what kind of art will bring it all together. … then I decided to do it. This works really well for me, but I know you need to have some ideas first to be able to think about what might work well for your space.
15 Diy Wall Decor Ideas For Any Room
I also like to consider what other art is around. I don’t like to have aaaaall painting to decorate a room, I like to mix it up. So in this place you will have quite a variety of resources to play with!
So if you need art for your home, this post will be a great inspiration for you! If you’re in the mood for a DIY project…also super fun inspiration!
So in this post I am sharing 12 modern wall art DIY that you can try at your home.
These are very popular now and you can order printed versions or buy printable versions, but since you need 3 for this space you pay $40 for printing, so the cost of the frame has risen to a number that I was not happy with when I was then I know I can do them myself.
Faux Tile Art Decor
I have a full DIY tutorial for these wood circle prints, I used scraps of wood my friend had saved for her wood burning fireplace, a torch, wire brush, ink, and dollar store board poster board. The frames are also IKEA so I was able to get this set of three DIYed and framed for well under $100. See the full tree circle art tutorial here!
Next up is my favorite brush lettering canvas! I always wonder where you got this and it’s definitely DIY. I have a full blog post and video tutorial sharing
I did it and especially how to get that brushed look woven into the letters. This striped type of lettering is totally modern and brings a lot of interest to another type of simple quotes.
I like to give the letter and write this myself. If you want to start with brush lettering – this is a good place to start! But if you’re not sure, you can always find a font you like and trace it onto the canvas before applying the paint for the effect of the brush strokes.
Kids Halloween Hanging Wall Art Craft
This is also affordable – I get this canvas in a larger size from Jysk and they often have sales. I think the regular price is now $25 but I found them for $15.
The letters are made with acrylic paint and a brush and then framed with craft wood (like this one). Since I found this canvas on sale, it cost me about $35 total including framing and paint. See the full tutorial here.
I’ve done a few mini braids now and they are so fun to do and fill little nooks and crannies with texture. I made these with no real weaving experience (I did weaving crafts in grade school, but can we even count that?). So if that scares you, it’s definitely doable for beginners!
This is also affordable, in fact the video tutorial I made for this project is part of the Dollar Store DIY Challenge so everything in it is from the Dollar Store! That means it costs less than $20 to make! Watch the video tutorial here.
6 Creative Wall Art Ideas
This large picture canvas in my dining room is a piece I am so in love with. I’m sure it looks like a large landscape canvas. But actually this is a picture of my kids running on the beach (you can spot all 4 of them if you look closely!). Instead of just a landscape print you find online, DIY gives you a print that’s meaningful to you (with the people you love!).
If you want to try something similar, the next time you are out somewhere, you think you would take a great landscape photo, back to where you feel comfortable from your children, your dog … whoever and go for that photo !
So to keep it affordable it’s also one of those Jysk canvases and then I printed the image as an engineering print from Staples. They don’t like it when you do it, but there are no rules against it either.
I used spray adhesive to attach it and then light coats of clear spray paint to seal the image. I framed it with craft wood and delicate molding.
Pumpkin Wall Decor Diy (fall Craft Idea For Adults)
It cost me close to $100 including the glue and spray paint as well as the framing. You can see more about this DIY in the full gallery post here!
This DIY faux shibori art was so simple to make, and the texture of the dyed material, but also the rough edges, make a beautiful piece of art interesting up close – but from a distance, the colors are muted enough to see that they belong. in our sage green kitchen.
I made this from scraps I had in my collection. It is either linen or coarse cotton. I made a shibori scrap with cardboard and string but then just dyed it with regular paint in my sink to lighten things up and avoid the mess. I framed it in a floating frame from Michaels (which I used a coupon for, of course!).
It cost me under $30 to join the frame and the two paint colors I used. See the full tutorial here!
Diy Wall Art: Unleash Your Creativity With Affordable Home Decor Ideas For 2024
I love the look of macrame in home decor and it’s so much fun to do! It brings such a great texture to the space but stays within the neutral palette that I love. Macrame works so well on dark walls like this, but also stones in light spaces.
While I don’t have a separate tutorial for the entire larger wall hanging, it is made from just 4 knots. I have a basic macrame knot tutorial here where you can learn the knots and probably the eyeball like the biggest guy does.
I have a simple macrame tapestry for this smaller piece that is the first part of the larger macrame wall hanging too! See it here.
This art is a great example of how I complete a room makeover and I think it needs a little *something* so I can think about what works for the space. I loved the muted taupe tones in our master bathroom makeover with pops of black and wanted to coordinate.
Diy Nursery Decor Ideas On A Budget: Easy Wall Art
The floating frame is a cheap one from Michaels that I spray painted matte black (it was the gloss black plastic).
I always have paints and watercolor paper along with a sharpener, so this cost me less than $20 for the frame (with coupons, of course!). You can see the full DIY post here!
I made this piece for our dining room in our last house and it now lives downstairs. I love how simple it is yet so classic and beautiful. This is in an IKEA frame and is just one sheet of multipurpose paper, then lettered with ink and a brush or brush pen that gives a similar texture (I did this so many years ago, can’t remember for sure). This cost me under $20 since I had the supplies but if you were to buy letter supplies, it would still only come to $25.
If you haven’t tried brush lettering – it’s so much fun, you can download a free brush lettering tutorial here so you can see if you like it! And if you do… you can make a lot of things for your home decor 😉
Home Sweet Home Art: 14 Home Art Ideas Using Maps Or Quotes
Because I love mixing textures and mediums, I love that this isn’t framed art! A wall flag adds a cool casual touch to the space and can be made to make any type of phrase or image that matches your home. I made one for my friend’s nursery with a Winnie the Pooh quote for it and I made this for my nursery.
I drew them by hand on my iPad, then cut out the letters with my Cricut to spell it out. If you don’t provide a letter, you can do the same with any font you like the look of! There are lots of beautiful hand lettering fonts out there – here are a few that I love.
This one is made on a scrap piece of curtain fabric we had discarded for our dining room windows. I turned around and then sewed the edges
