Decorating Ideas Animal Crossing – Picture this: You go to Isabel in Residential Services and ask her to evaluate your island. Her little thought bubble popped, and she said that you are currently rated 4 stars! What?? how?? You think: “I did everything you asked!” Or maybe “I only got a 5-star review!”
If this is you, and you feel like you can’t do more to improve your island, then you’ve definitely come to the right place. Fear not, because I will help you check all the basic features of a 5-star island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

It technically uses a point scale to develop the island and landscape. Your score depends on how much of a particular item category you include, but grading involves too much thinking (and math) for my liking, and perhaps for me. So, here’s a simpler version with easy estimates:

At first glance, this list may seem overwhelming. But don’t worry! It’s much easier than it sounds, and you can still achieve it without losing your organized island. Here’s how.
Some people’s first instinct when they see how many trees they will need to achieve a 5-star rating is to wander around their island and plant trees anywhere, everywhere and in all the empty spaces. But this leads to more work later when you want to maintain your island and make it more cohesive. So how do you stay organized and plant all the trees you need?
Make a garden! It takes little planning other than choosing the type of tree you want in your orchard. Depending on the space you want to build, your orchard can be as large or as small as you want.
Personally, I chose to create a chart with one row per outcome and 10 columns per outcome (5 x 10 chart). So I have a lot of non-local fruits that I can pick in large quantities every three days and collect a lot of bells. And I made the 50 fruit trees look really beautiful by keeping them in a neat, compact plot of land separate from the rest of the island.

Of course, you can also use other types of trees available to you, such as pine trees and bamboo, to create different ecosystems on your island, such as a zen garden or a forest. This can add significantly to your total number.
Therefore, it is easy to make 50 pieces of fence when you start building. But it’s common to have a tunnel vision of how to use your fence on an island, and the first idea is to enclose a large area with a single fence.
Don’t fall prey to this outdated and space-consuming idea! Use different types of fencing around the island to give character to different areas. You can do this by creating yards around your family’s homes, creating small gardening spaces, or sprucing up spaces you’ve already created.
Even though your island is already equipped with one type of flower, obtaining all types is beneficial to your rating and Nook Miles.

If you’re like me, you want at least one flower of each color. But this presents a huge problem to make it look beautiful and mysterious when trying to organize and maintain. I’ve tried a few different ways to arrange my flowers all over the island, but my favorite is creating a rainbow garden.
This allowed me to create a section small enough to keep it from taking over my entire island and still have a beautiful area showcasing all the different flowers.
Personally, my island theme is based on nature and the hut, so I have a section or two where flowers cover the entire slopes to give you an idea of what you’ll find out in the wild. When I received a 5-star review, I let the lily-of-the-valley flowers grow randomly to capture that feeling.
One of the hardest things for me to accomplish on my 5-star trip was setting up the slopes. At the time, it cost me a lot of bells and the pressure to put it in the perfect position was at an all-time high.

But I’m here to tell you, the most important aspect of ramp mode (at least for me) is how you use it. Will your stairs be specifically designed to go up or down to the next level? Is it a fun feature that adds character to the area? How easy is it to maneuver them from point A to point B?
After you figure it out, don’t be afraid to place the ramps next to each other! You can do this by placing the ramps between three ramps and using them to create a fun path to run up and down. Here’s an example from my island where my cliffs double as an easy path from my campsite to the hidden beach and fun trail.
Like cliffs, bridges can be just as important to finding the perfect place to put them on your island. However, there is also a limiting factor in placing it, as you need a water source of some sort to place it on top of.
Try to have fun with your bridges in design and placement as you think about how to use them. You can create a small pond and add a sloped bridge to create a small water feature in your lawn or garden. Or you can create a lost bridge in the forest area.

Here are my thoughts on some of the different designs. Like I said before, I love the vibe of my cabin, so my personal style is definitely more “wilderness explorer” than “city dweller.”
Depending on how advanced you are in the game, this can be a challenge. But assuming you have plenty of materials and DIY cards, here are a few different ways you can keep your island cluttered while using plenty of furniture to decorate.
This is a great way to fit a lot of things into a small space without making it too big. There are many designs you can choose from: cafes, parks, camps, beaches, gardens, etc.
Really great at giving you lots of outdoor gear to choose from to decorate your island. Although I didn’t plan it at first, I created a huge garden and pumpkin patch complete with a water tap, gardening shed, wheelbarrow, and a few other things. This is also a great way to grow fruits or vegetables when you need a lot of bells quickly.

I fought myself planning this for weeks, but after redesigning several times, I finally came up with a small area where the villagers could relax by the pool. Besides this, there is also a sand volleyball court to complete the summer camp aesthetic with plenty of activities.
It is essential that you purchase a variety of large and small items to decorate your island. This doesn’t mean you have to buy everything you see. Think about the types of areas you want to create on your island and track them at Nook’s Cranny or Nook Stop at Resident Services.
As mentioned above, you’ll want to know what to do with this furniture when you finally get it. A great idea to follow is to adapt your family’s yard to their personality. You can do this by placing some trees or bushes, a bench, and a small table with a coffee cup or other small object on top.
Whether or not you have a theme for your island or even just your home, placing furniture pieces around your home can make it feel more complete. Personally, I wasn’t sure what to do with my house, so I added a few things here and there until it looked like a real house.

A lesser-known feature of maintaining or achieving your 5-star island is making sure your furniture, trees and flowers are not cluttered together. The game rates your island by looking at 8×8 sections (64 squares total), and if you have more than 45 items in that space, it will likely lower your rating.
So make sure to distribute the different areas on your island and create small areas out of large open sections. If you feel like something is missing in a certain place, ask yourself what you would add in real life to make it friendlier or more complete.
