I had to learn the hard way how important it is to have a game plan when it comes to decorating shelves. I stopped to look at the empty shelves of the first house I read about (when it was called hmydearblog.com and I didn’t know about decorating) and I almost cried because of the feeling of not knowing the job. started again.

It’s been 7 years since I started my blog, and over the years I’ve picked up some tips and tricks and now I know you can save a lot of time decorating your bookcase, or floating board if you have a game plan before you start!

Decorating shelves can be overwhelming and you don’t even know where to start! At least that’s how I felt when I first tried decorating the shelves. I often struggle to figure out how to decorate the shelves without always trying to find the right balance and look that I want.

Over the years though I’ve been looking for the method I use when I arrange the shelves, I promise if you shoot the next time you decorate the end it will look really good of the floor, all the time!

The way to decorate the shelves depends on the arrangement of the items used. I want to describe our floor in three different ways with items from our house, but I will use the placement method to show how easy it is to apply it to your own home.

Always start at the top floor and work your way down. Starting from the top floor you want to place decorations from one end of the floor to the other, covering most of the floor.

The most important thing about quality designer floors is home decoration of high quality. For example, see the image below. On the top floor, not only did I cover the decorations from one end, I made sure to use the shapes from the top.

Some ideas for taller ones include plants such as snake plants that can grow very tall, large pictures hung vertically or horizontally, and large ornaments or candlesticks.

You’ll want to add larger items so your shelves don’t look like too much clutter. Your ultimate goal should be to make your bookshelf or tablet look good, not clutter it with all the goodies you have.

Once you get the upper floor in shape, you can move on to the lower floor. On this shelf, the decorations are grouped into two sections and not spread across the length of the floor.

Easy + Inexpensive Fall Living Room Decor

As you can see in the photo above it is not that you can use anything just on one side of the floor, although you can if you like a smaller look.

You can put all kinds of decorations in a fun way, but the main thing is to leave a blank space, or white space, between the two groups.

The goal is to have a beautiful display on the shelf, rather than the appearance of too many items thrown there. We want to look good, and the two groups below will help the eye to a place to rest and feel better.

Repeat. This method works no matter how many floating shelves or bookshelves you have. Continue working on the next shelf with the correct width of shelf decoration, then the next shelf in two groups and so on until all of your shelves are decorated.

How To Style Your Summer Shelves

Finally, I like to stand back and take photos to help me see what needs to be added or removed.

Taking photos and looking through a camera can really help you remember things that others may not.

Below I have shown a smaller and smaller version of the decoration, but also the method of placing the decorations in groups on each floor.

If you’re more into farmhouse style, just use farmhouse decor and boho or mid-century pieces.

These are the two groups of art I’m thinking about for the shelves after playing with the gallery wall view.

Using the view I can easily insert and change the various components until I find the perfect combination. Then I chose the size and frame and the perfect combination of artwork for the shelf that was sent directly to me.

I really love abstract art these days and this is the perfect background to use anywhere, but it works well when decorating a floor.

When you gather, try to find the mixture
