My living room has seen many DIY projects and decor changes over the years – some good and some that surprise me.
(even something that makes me cringe today) but I can see myself adding a traditional and big millennial touch to the cottage style and I’m so happy and feel like I’ve finally nailed it.
Living Room Spring Decor In Blue + White
When I decorate for fall each year, one of the first decisions I make is what color palette I want to use. In fact, I wrote an entire blog post with 12 different fall color palettes that you can check out here, if you’re looking for inspiration for your home.
I’ve used some pretty unconventional palettes before, but none quite like this burgundy and blue combination.
In years past, I pulled out “all things” when decorating for fall. That’s what I look back on when I look at them.
Today, I have a much more fun approach to seasonal and holiday decorating. I’ve learned to add seasonal touches to my everyday decor instead of redecorating
13 Ways To Decorate With Blue In The Living Room
With every rust thing. Instead, I kept my everyday look but added some beautiful boughs of fall foliage in a shade of burgundy in a large white vase and some gold faux pampas grass in a beautiful blue and white vase.
Decorating tip: If you have high ceilings in a room with a fireplace, use tall, large pieces on the fireplace. Go to the drama. Using too many small items in a large room can make the space look cluttered.
By keeping my same live plants on the mantel and chest, it reinforces that it’s a statement against my everyday look that I’ve changed everything for fall.
One thing I change every season are the pillows and blankets on my sofa and couch.

Cushions are often my inspiration when choosing a color palette for decoration. All it takes is a throw pillow and I decorate my entire room around it in my head. 😜
Decorating tip: As a rule, use at least three patterns in the room. Use patterns of different sizes, use similar colors and combine simple and complex patterns.
Even though I have come up with a great solution for storing my pillows, I keep telling myself to break my pillow addiction!
In keeping with fall decorating my everyday look, the main thing I did on my coffee table was organize the things I normally keep there and replaced the typical summer decorations with fall inspired ones.

Blue And Gold Living Room Ideas For Newlyweds
With all its offer and multitude of moods, we never fail to find blue comfort. There is something about this combination of sea and sky that resets a bad day and gives us peace. And where is the general sense of relaxation better than in the living room? It’s our favorite place to kick off our shoes and settle in for an hour (or three) of Netflix, so it makes sense that blue is the perfect color for this cozy gathering spot.
If you’re not ready to pull out the paint rollers just yet, don’t bother. One of the things we love most about this shade is how easy it is to incorporate into existing color schemes, eliminating the need for floor-to-ceiling changes.
Scroll ahead to some of our favorite blue living rooms, then take a deep breath—and let this zen color work its magic on you.
Don’t be afraid that being too bold will make the space cluttered. When you’re working with the blues, it can actually do the exact opposite. “A design with rich blues allows you to add depth and drama while creating a comfortable aura for the room,” says Lord.
25 Refined Blue Living Room Decor Ideas
Okay, we admit it – blue isn’t exactly neutral. But it’s so versatile and classic that we consider it an honorary member of our neutral must-see list. In this muted space, a durable shade of denim provides just the right amount of added interest while keeping things soft and subtle and highlighting the embedded blue-green notes.
If painting the walls a bold color is out of the question—either because of a stubborn landlord or chronic indecision—a wide rug is a great way to “fake” a floor-to-ceiling color effect. This super saturated rug does just that, providing a big pop of beautiful blue in this space.
Put up that rug – shouldn’t you be spending more time looking at it? A clear coffee table (whether glass, locite or acrylic) is the perfect way to spend more time admiring your new investment purchase.
Why settle for just a shade of blue? This navy blue sofa looks incredible against a multi-colored rug that includes other shades of pure blue, which is part of what we love so much about this versatile color. A few unexpected patterns and shapes give the space an attractive mix-and-match feel, so it can easily grow and change over time.
Living Room Decor With Blue Upholstery: Create Tranquil Interiors
This unique shade of light blue looks like a breath of fresh air and fits beautifully with the classic and eclectic atmosphere of this space. Modern details, such as the coffee table, are combined with contrasting prints, which seem to refer to the past without dwelling on it.
Yves Klein Blue is making a big comeback—but don’t take our word for it. We’ve been seeing this popular shade recently in homewares, from ceramics to lamps and more, but it wasn’t until we saw it here that we knew it was here to stay. This incredibly saturated color is certainly a bold choice, but it really adds a lot of charm to your paint box: the effect is incredible and we expect guests to appreciate it every time they walk in
Who knew turquoise and gray purple went so well together? This living room is a masterclass in balancing the shades between the two to create a stunning effect that is greater than the sum of its parts. Texture is definitely part of the equation – pairing marble surfaces with soft upholstery and rugged rugs creates an inviting contrast, bringing even more depth to this incredible pairing.
If you grew up with the saying never to mix black and blue, this room might come as a bit of a surprise – but the rules were meant to be broken. While it’s true that navy blue and black can sometimes clash, more often than not, blue plays well with others (black included). The trick is to balance out your dull shadows with something brighter and more vibrant, like this cheerful shade. Confining black to the back wall of the living room, as shown here, not only adds a modern, unexpected look, but also draws the eye to the ground and adds length to the space.
