Instead of investing in all new wall decor, take notes from Mackenzie and pull from your existing archives. “I made this gallery wall out of stuff I had,” he said of the small montage that hangs above the toilet. This technique is perfect for small spaces that only need a few pieces of wall art to complete.

Mackenzie chose Dirty Chai in Cinnamon—a warm, sophisticated neutral that’s a far cry from the blush pinks that adorned her bathroom walls last year. “Bathroom blush is definitely a crowd favorite, but let’s be honest, this color is polarizing,” she wrote. “I didn’t want anything to stop potential buyers from falling in love with this house, so I was ready to try something new.”

You can still retile your bathroom on a budget, especially if you’re working with a smaller space. To save money quickly, “ask your local store what boxes they have overstocked in their warehouse,” he suggests. “If you have a small workspace, this might be enough to get the job done.”

Wall-mounted sinks can save space in small bathrooms, but exposed pipes can present significant design challenges. Instead of buying nice-looking new pipes, Craven recommends going to your local powder coating store. “Decorating ductwork can be expensive,” he points out. “Rather than buying all the new pipe you want, powder coating can save you time and money. Just work with your plumber to determine what you need and what you already have.

For me, I had a clean slate in one of the bathrooms at the Wilshire Hotel, and I had my first guest of the night (Katie, my project manager), so that gave me something to do Good reason and motivation!

I didn’t want to break the bank so I shopped smart, made some DIY projects and got creative!

I like to add little details to make it feel “spa-like” for guests. A favorite candle from the Antique Candle Company, and a small basket with bath salts, room sprays, and lotions! It’s a small touch that means best friends!

The only thing I can really relate to here is the Doel shower curtain. Like I said, most of the rest comes from “off sale” stores or I make my own!

I hope you enjoyed this and that it gives you some great bathroom decorating ideas! I started my Design Mistakes series many years ago and it really makes me happy! It started out as a way to show some of the mistakes I made in my own home while helping others learn the dos and don’ts of home design. Well, it quickly became the most popular series on this blog!

Design errors today are small but common. Imagine you are renovating a new bathroom and you need a toothbrush holder, soap dispenser, tissue box cover, and shower curtain! You go to the store and buy all the matching sets. Boom, you’re done.

This matching bathroom décor isn’t the perfect fit for a fancy new bathroom. Your small space instantly looks public. This is very similar to a past design mistake when I discouraged the use of traditional bedroom sets.

75 Small Bathroom Ideas That Feel Positively Palatial

If you want your home to feel high-end, well-designed, and collected, matching everything isn’t the best option.

Now, you’re probably looking around at your bathrooms and thinking, “Oh my gosh, Kathy! I don’t want to buy all new stuff for every bathroom in my house. This fix is going to cost a lot of money. I want it so bad. The good news is there’s a simple Solution.” Very.

Move a soap dispenser from here to there. Pallets go from room to room. You don’t need to throw anything away, you can transform each space for a different feel. This quick update will be a great way to improve the look of your bathroom.

When I design a bathroom countertop, I usually like to include a soap dispenser, a toothbrush holder (if needed), a tray, and some sort of secret storage space for the vanity. This is important for bathrooms.

Holiday Guest Bathroom Decor

We have several tissue boxes in the house (this one is my favorite!), but I didn’t have to style it in the bathroom.

Let’s take a look at all the bathrooms in my home and how they are styled so that they don’t match, but they coordinate.

We have practical decorative items on our bathroom table. We have a double sink vanity, but that doesn’t mean we have two.

In Finn’s sink we have a soap dispenser. I used this amber glass bottle for a traditional look. These are our favorite soap dispensers to use at home because they’re the same everywhere.

There is a glossy black tray in the middle. I’m a big fan of trays on bathroom vanities because they’re a great way to store small items and make them look tidy. Here I have the fake plant, Finn’s cologne, and this little container of Q-tips.

This container is actually a candle holder, but it’s also perfect for holding Q-tips! The color is also amber but does not match the soap dispenser due to the ribbed texture.

Then, I have this black marble container to hold the cotton balls. It’s great to have it somewhere easy to reach, and it looks great in the sink. Again, we wanted each piece to complement rather than match.

I love the combination of black and amber with the gold vanity and white marble countertops. I then added a rattan box to add some texture to the boards.

Decorating the children’s bathroom is a little easier. In fact, I don’t even have a good soap dispenser!

However, I only use this plastic soap dispenser for my favorite soaps. It’s lightweight and unbreakable, making it perfect for kid-friendly spaces.

To complement the navy blue vanity, I chose a navy blue toothbrush holder. Yes, this is a kid-friendly place, but there’s no reason to go overboard with themes or color schemes. The shower curtain here is white with navy fringe.

I also used pallets (similar) in this space. This time hold the plant and a small jar of floss picks. The jar is black and white striped and I love the little pattern.

In this place, I also used this rattan trash can. I love the textured wastebasket, can you tell?

Our basement bathroom is the latest in a makeover and I really enjoyed using old and new bathroom decor in this DIY project. I wanted the decor to coordinate with the moody interior and make the space feel luxurious.

No need for a toothbrush holder here, so that’s what I did
