Some cookies that are not shared are subject to review and have not yet been classified. My last post discussed the design panels, which were particularly poorly organized. I wanted to go into this week and talk about some of the shows that were here, but they just needed a change. I saw some comments asking me to go back to the boards and change them based on what I thought was good and I tried to do that.

For starters, this set of display boards was created during my senior year of high school for a contest held at Cranbrook Academy in 2007. The contest called for four 20″ x 20″ boards. Because of the amount of work that went into this project, it was harder than I expected to fit a lot of stories into four boards. Also, I’ve always had trouble fixing the square shape. The four boards are designed to read well on their own and to complement each other when placed next to each other. This was achieved by setting up a simple grid and creating relationships from board to board, such as using windows of the same color or background elements that overlap.

The first board I looked at was the top left view with the main page layout. There are a few things that jump out at me right away.

1. First, the images on the left feel out of place and don’t belong on the page. They looked like they were stuck there because I didn’t know where else to put them. There are a few tricks I can do to keep them on the page right, but I feel like they’re not theirs.

2. The main background image is very cool. I was in a phase where I avoided any color. You can see it in my college profile where everything is in black and white. The problem with a site plan that is too over the top is that it tends to be dull. Even then I saw it as a cartoon, it doesn’t really show good design.

3. The word fades into the background. I remember doing this because I was worried that the wording would distract too much from the big picture of the site plan. But because I faded it out and threw it at the top of a busy part of the page layout, the text is hard to read and the most confusing of all the posts.

What I did to solve the above problems was to simplify things. Usually with motherboards I like them simple but solid. The site plan I heard could be a strong image if edited. I scaled it down a bit and added a green coating. It only took 10 minutes, but it made a huge difference. I also moved the pictures from this page and put them on another board. This opened up another space for moving the word. I darkened the transparent black box to help separate the text from the background so the two don’t compete. I also put the cartoon at the bottom of the text as a way to end the paragraph.

I think the second original group has a good layout. There is a lot of information about these rankings, but most of it is hard to read.

1. Floor plans are difficult to understand. This was the hardest part of the layout because the floor plans themselves are amazing. So I had to put as many of them on the page as possible without making them too small. There are also a lot of lines that are hard to describe, what is inside, what is outside, what are the ramps, corridors, etc.

2. Together with the floor plans, it is almost impossible to quickly understand the part below. Understanding this section is very important to understanding the design of this project, so this section should be read better than it is now.

3. The images on the left do not belong to this page. Combining work is always important, but finding a place to combine it can be challenging.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the pictures from the first board have been replaced by drawings on the second board. This explains the well-designed story of the project. Then I messed up the floor plan. Even a subtle movement like this makes a big difference in how quickly you can read and understand floor plans. Now things like inside vs. outside, spaces on the ground, vertical distributions, etc. understand a little. Finally, I re-looked at the pieces using a technique popular on this site to add depth and clarity to the line. While I love the simplicity of line work, adding a little shading goes a long way.

This is a great layout for sharing design ideas with my friends (not showing at all…just expressing ideas). You can see that there are conflicts of architectural languages ​​(circular/curved shapes vs rectilinear/angular shapes) that create confusion. There are also areas without specific programs that need to be addressed. At the very least, building the layout helped me narrow down ideas and understand what needed to be expanded.

Since this place has an important part of its architecture, I decided to go to the Royal Botanic Garden to understand the plants in the summer season. I wrote down the names of the plants and looked them up in the Burnley Plant Guide (requires University of Melbourne staff or student ID to access), which is a platform for viewing plant characteristics (such as maturity rates, tolerances, traits, suitable planting conditions, etc.) . It helped me decide which plants to use.

I was very impressed with the way we handle the space. We often create boundaries between where we “should” walk (the path) and where we “shouldn’t”. Instead of creating a horizontal relationship with plants, we can create a vertical relationship
