Design For Long Bathroom
So, you’ve found the perfect house or apartment that ticks all the boxes on your list – with one small problem: the bathroom is too small for your taste. Whether you live in a spacious apartment or a small apartment, most homes have one bathroom that is severely lacking in square footage.

But this is no reason to save on space: there are many ways to make the bathroom look like a spa suite. All it takes is some jewelry, the right type of storage, and a good idea to make it happen.
We tapped interior designer Bailey Floyd for her simple bathroom design ideas. Although she has many ideas for making a room feel larger, there’s a big decorating mistake she wants you to avoid. “A common mistake I see a lot of people make when decorating a small bathroom is thinking they can’t store it because space is limited,” she explains.
Bailey Floyd is the founder of Bailey Dion Design, an interior design firm located in Palm Beach, Florida. He was also selected as one of Decorest’s top designers.
Below, keep reading to learn Floyd’s best small bathroom ideas, tips, and tricks to make your space bigger than you ever dreamed it would be when you first laid eyes on it.
How To Furnish A Long, Narrow Bathroom
When it comes to painting a small bathroom, Floyd recommends sticking to light, neutral shades. “I find that often there isn’t enough natural light or [a window] in a crowded bathroom, so I like to stick to white and gray to make the space as light and airy as possible,” the designer said. He explains.
When you have more space in your bathroom, why close it with a curtain? We love how this designer opens up the entire room with the simple choice of clear shower doors. With the built-in window, you have a clear view of the back wall and plenty of natural light from the moment you enter the room.
“Plants deserve a shower,” Floyd said. “There’s something about that little touch of greenery that brings the space together and invites you in.” If you don’t have space for potted plants, opt for hanging plants that float in the corner. “It adds a sense of calm and relaxation to the bathroom.”
This new story is also a work. Create floor-to-ceiling storage units in your space to use every inch without creating clutter in your bathroom. We love the small open shelf in the middle that breaks up the cabinetry and allows room for decorating.
Decorating Ideas For A Relaxing Spa Bathroom
The right mirrors can do wonders to make a small bathroom look spacious. “Not only will it make more sense throughout the district, it will make it seem more reasonable,” Floyd said. Large mirrors reflect light to create the illusion of more space in a narrow bathroom.
Narrow rooms are hard to design: we get that. But with the right decor and accessories, your bathroom can look like a suite. Slender cabinets, wall hooks and the creativity of a single bathtub with a suspended shower head take advantage of poor space in this room to leave walk-in closets.
According to Floyd, a proper medicine cabinet is a “lifesaver.” The trick is to find one that doesn’t look old. Floyd says to look for a piece you wouldn’t call a drugstore, because of the contemporary design. Hiding storage behind your bathroom mirror will keep the space stylish and open.
This design works well with square-shaped rooms. If your master bedroom doesn’t have the luxurious bathroom you were hoping for, make the space feel more open by arranging plumbing and living rooms around the outside of the room. Here the water tank next to the bathroom is very small, but the result is correct.
Narrow Small Bathroom Layout Ideas For More Function And Style Too
A small bathroom doesn’t mean you have to choose a pedestal sink instead of one with drawers and hidden storage. “With limited bathroom space, you’ll want to maximize your storage options,” Floyd says. Even a simple 18-inch vanity with some built-in drawers can make a difference.
Although we love working with light, neutral colors in designing small bathrooms, the best way to keep things as open as possible is to go all-white. The variety of textures in this room, from tiles to matte walls and luxurious hand towels, help break up the space in the elegant design.
The floor tiles in this bathroom blend the shower with the rest of the room. It’s not a very open bathroom, and still leaves room for the main area to dry off after a shower. But thanks to the transparent glass doors, the room becomes one.
On the other side of neutral colors, Floyd is not against using wallpaper in a small bathroom. “I find that wallpaper is a great solution for renovating small-space bathrooms in rentals. It gives the entire space a sense of elegance while being removable and affordable,” he added.

Natural light is a great way to make rooms bright, open and airy. Frame the windows in your bathroom to focus on the outdoors – even if you’re working with limited space, focus on the view rather than the open space.
Choose a stylish nightstand under a new double mirror for extra storage space. “You won’t believe the difference not having legs makes on your vanity or built-in vanity,” says Floyd. “When you take the decorations off the floor, you’ll be surprised at how spacious the space becomes.”
Use the space under the floating vanity to place storage baskets to hold towels, extra soap or makeup, and other daily essentials.
If you can’t make the room bigger, make it longer. We love the low lighting in this bathroom that draws the eye to the ceiling for the open design. The light, matte paint color complements the tile work in the room, blending into the space and adding a sense of texture.
Long Narrow Bathroom
Even if your bathroom is small, thinking and combining it can create a new look. We want to get ready every morning in this space: gold-blue accessories connect the design to balance the gray wallpaper and add an elegant finishing touch.
With limited storage space on shelves and in bathrooms, it’s a great idea to find a good way to store towels and other accessories. This seems like an obvious solution, but in addition to towel hooks, you can also hang small baskets and decorations to save space in main storage areas.
We love that the first thing you notice when you walk into this bathroom is the new vanity and decor. The all-white walls are touched with texture and class, and thanks to the bright design, the small space remains open and airy.
Another great space saver? Hanging shelf above the toilet. “Most bathrooms are located next to the tub or shower in small bathrooms, so I like to have floating shelves above and folded towels for storing linens and easy access from the shower,” says Floyd.
65 Bathroom Tile Ideas To Inspire Your Space
If you don’t have storage space, it can be difficult to find room for larger items like towels. In this bathroom design, a woven basket is hung under the vanity to hold it up elegantly (and save valuable cabinet and floor space).
If you don’t want to dedicate your most used space, opt for a pedestal sink in guest bathrooms. This style provides plenty of space on the floor for easy walking. We’re also fans of bold wallpaper and unique lighting fixtures in guest bathroom spaces, because they add a personal touch to small rooms.
There’s nothing better than clean design to make a small room feel larger. To keep an all-white space looking strong, mix different textures. We love how the marble counters and tiles contrast with the matte walls in this room.
Even if you still need a chest of drawers and expensive counter space, choosing a small nightstand can still work while keeping the room from feeling cluttered. We love the navy blue design in this bathroom that creates a modern vibe with gold accessories. Since it is placed in the corner, it will not be removed from the wardrobe.

If your floor space is small, it is important to make it appear large. By using smaller tiles, your complex patterns will have more room to repeat over and over and create the illusion of a longer design. We love the small black tiles in this bathroom
