Design Ideas For A Lounge

When we moved in, there was nothing special about this place. It was just a small square box with no character. The advantages were the large window that let in a lot of light and the wooden floors.

The downsides were the old baseboard heaters and the chandelier that we walked into every time we crossed the room.

This 10×10 room is just off our small entryway at the front of the house. We’re pretty sure the previous and only owners used this place as a dining room. We don’t need another dining area so it will serve as a sitting/living area for now.

The first project I had in mind for this room was to get rid of the lamp and the two baseboard heaters. We don’t need the heaters and they are just ugly so I removed them and repaired all the holes and damaged walls.

I also removed the old thermostat and filled that hole as well as all the other nail holes and bumps.

The next step was to seal all the trim and windows (problems in the old house) and then started priming the trim.

At this point in the project I was ready to paint the walls. First, though, I gave the ceiling a couple coats of glossy white paint. Who cares!

The trim also got a few coats of the same color I used in the rest of the house: Behr Polar Bear mixed with BM Advance.

Finally it’s time to paint the walls. I used this house to experiment with different tones, ie soft white paint colors and matte finishes. The walls in this house have a lot of imperfections, so I was hoping a matte finish would minimize them.

In my original living room plan, I wanted to use a metal door for the large doorway between the kitchen and living room. After some research and price comparison, I decided to find a cheaper option. I positioned myself in sliding steel and glass doors.

If you’ve spent any time around Chatfield Court, you’ll know I’m not one for curtains. I’m more of a minimalist when it comes to window dressing and to be honest, I don’t feel like cleaning curtains.

The plan for this room was to re-hang the rattan curtains I installed when we moved in.

But after I hung them back up and put my room back together, I felt like something was wrong. As if something was missing.

I gave it a few weeks to see if it was just a room change, but the wall with the window still looked unfinished. Internally, I knew I needed to hang the curtains. I chose curtains from Two Pages, Liz Linen Drape Plisada.
