Design Ideas For Apartment Balcony – Summer is almost over but it’s officially September, so that means it’s time for fall decorations!

I enjoy making light seasonal decorations throughout the year, but since moving into my apartment at the beginning of the summer, this time (unlike in years past), I’ve had fun creating outdoor spaces. Despite its small footprint, there’s a lot that goes into decorating a small space, and I’m excited to share my patio reveal.

If you’re interested in larger furniture, you can check out my original patio slideshow post here, but today I’m going to focus on how I added all the fall vibes into the space with affordable finds from Amazon, Walmart, Target, and even T.J. Maxx and Michael. You’ll notice (and it’s no surprise, lol) that I kept the color palette neutral, intentionally avoiding the warmer, more saturated tones of the season. However, I added some warmer neutrals to break up the tones a bit, but overall I like the calming beauty of creamy whites with beige and brown undertones.

The key to creating a successful monochromatic look is to use different textures to add depth and dimension to your space. So the first thing I did was replace the bistro table with this rattan table and layer a handful of embroidered pumpkin cushions. Continuing with that idea, I added several stems of pampas grass in a vase on the table and a few more stems in a vase on top of some wooden crates stacked in the corner.

I already had these dim lights in the space, but to add more ambience, I added these flameless candle lanterns, some autumn scented candles, and some tea lights in mason jars lined up along the railing.

Lastly, no fall decor is complete without a few pumpkins! I got all this from T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s are available in store, most can be found online and are linked below. Not pictured are the products I ordered, which haven’t arrived yet from Target, which has great options in all kinds of colors and styles this year and you can see them here!

If you haven’t jumped on the fall train yet, we hope this post provides some inspiration to get you excited for the season. 🍂 By clicking “Accept All Cookies”, you agree to the storing of cookies on your device to enhance site navigation, analyze site usage, and assist in our marketing efforts.

If you are one of the lucky few to have a balcony in your apartment, condo, or home, then congratulations! You have found one of the most sought after spaces a home can offer. Unfortunately, as you can see, this space can go unused: it is often not large enough to accommodate all the furniture you want. But size shouldn’t stop you from creating a beautiful balcony that you can enjoy 365 days a year.

Ahead, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite ways to maximize your precious balcony space. Regardless of whether you’re working with 20 square feet or 100 square feet, the options are truly endless. All it takes is a little creativity and a lot of following on Instagram to make your balcony feel like home.

We understand perfectly: minimalism is not for everyone. But sometimes the saying “less is more” is still true. In a small space, too many decorations can make the room look messy. Instead, try adding a focal point, like a sofa, and a color-coordinated finishing touch or two.

There is something inherently iconic about a porch swing. However, you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to own your own just because space is limited. There are many balcony swings that have single seats and can be hung outside, perfect for nesting in smaller spaces. If you’re not allowed to hang a swing because you have to rent it, you can also try using a standing egg chair.

Let’s be honest: there are probably very few activities you do on your small balcony. You can spend a few minutes outside drinking coffee or watching the sunset, but reading is a classic balcony activity. So why not transform your refuge into a reading corner? The key here is to find an accent chair that’s large enough to curl up in but small enough to not overwhelm the space.

When it comes to small spaces, the biggest mistake we see people making is forgetting to take advantage of the wall space, even outside. Add shelves for plants and lamps, hang wooden slats on the wall for neater organization, and use window sills as temporary shelves. This way you can enjoy your space without feeling stuffy.

If you have plants and a balcony, you’re probably growing a small crop of basil or cilantro outside. But why stop here? Line window sills with pots of different sizes, hang ivy on high shelves, and hang spider plants from decorative baskets. Before you know it, your small space will resemble a luxurious greenhouse.

Apartment Balcony Container Gardening For Summer –

When we were children, there was nothing more dreamy and magical than our fort made of pillows and blankets. A few decades later, the same sentiment applied to balconies. To build your own grown-up fort, lay down some artificial grass, add a soft, weatherproof blanket, and finish with all the pillows you can find.

In cases where the surface area of the room is very limited, creating a conversation space with furniture may not be feasible. Instead, try arranging everything so that it faces the view: this way you can still chat over a glass of merlot while admiring all the natural beauty of the evening sunset.

In a perfect life, we would all waste our days poolside in a private cabana. But since we’ll have to wait until our next vacation to do that, you might as well make the most of the outdoor living space you have. To get the same luxury tent vibe, opt for a giant daybed or ottoman (yes, even if it takes up all the commercial space on your balcony).

No room for a table? Don’t worry. Build your own breakfast bar out of plywood or purchase a pre-made table that fits perfectly over your ledge. Just add a few bar stools and you’ll have a little space to enjoy your coffee while scrolling through your social feed.

Models have a wonderful way of making things seem bigger, bigger and much more important. If you only have room to add a few pieces of furniture, try enriching the rest of the space with a variety of patterns such as ikat cushions, floral rugs and striped cushions. It might seem a little hectic at first, but once you find the right sample playback speed, everything will work out.

Small spaces can be difficult to organize, especially when it comes to finding the right furniture. If you’re a fan of DIY projects, try taking matters into your own hands by building custom furniture that fits your space. Folding furniture is the ideal solution because you can store it and create more space whenever you need it. (Don’t want to build something from scratch? Don’t worry; there are plenty of options to choose from and install easily.)

If you want to go out on the balcony to sunbathe, it is important to protect your skin, especially on sunny days. If you have a railing, use the space to hang curtains, add an awning or put up a giant umbrella. In the heat of summer, you’ll thank yourself.
