Design Ideas For Narrow Entryway – Tips for decorating a small entryway in your home to add character and charm. Your guests will be greeted by such a welcoming place!

If you were to ask me which room in our house caused me the most trouble, I would easily say decorating our small entryway. It’s small, awkward, and I’ve spent so many hours staring down at it trying to figure out a layout plan.

I recently decided to just deal with it and it honestly made the most sense. I went over it and tried to be super creative when I came up with options.

With an entryway as small as ours, I think there are some important things and changes you can make to make the space much more welcoming. Here are my tips for decorating a small entryway!

Decorative wall molding always makes a huge difference and adds great texture and appeal to any room. We added board and wainscoting to our entryway, hallway and living room and it really transformed the whole space.

The different types of wall coverings that I think would work well in a small entryway like ours could be paneling, boards and battens, stair or vertical boards. Or you can even add wallpapers for that extra touch!

Our house had the worst building lights. As soon as we moved in, I knew I wanted to replace them all.

The hallway had the most random track lighting, so I updated it with a school pendant that matched the rest of my home decor. And since our ceiling was slanted, the chain pendant worked perfectly.

The most obvious upgrade to your entryway would be to add a rug. Every entryway needs a good rug, but I tend to see a lot of people actually using outdoor rugs.

It certainly works, but maybe find a nice decorative rug to add a little more character. I found this washable mat that has a handle on the bottom and it was perfect for people coming in and out.

Sometimes we tend to forget that we can paint this part of the door. Paint it any color you want to match your decor style. I don’t think there are any wrong answers when it comes to painting. Do what feels right for you!

I decided to paint our white door Little Black Dress from BEHR and it was the biggest bang for the buck in this remodel. And just remember, if you don’t like it, it’s just paint! Repaint!

In my opinion, a mirror is a must in any entryway. But even more in a small entrance hall. Who doesn’t need a quick look at themselves before heading out the door?!

At the same time, it is fantastic for making a small room look bigger by simply reflecting more light from the door window. This beautiful mirror was large enough to cover most of the wall I needed to accent and was very affordable.

Less is more when it comes to decorating a small space. You have the essentials with a rug and a mirror, but you don’t need to hang a bunch of random things on the wall to cover more space. The last thing you want to do is mess up your entryway.

7 Smart Ways To Maximize A Small Hallway

I always suggest a simple wreath of greenery that you can hang either on the inside of your front door or on a mirror. I also hung a small piece of vintage architecture above the cabinet door, but that’s about it. I stopped there.

I always, always try to be as functional as possible when decorating a room. It’s easy to fall in love with beautiful things, but nothing beats beautiful things that serve a purpose.

So I added some cute black hooks to hang things and a vintage stool to sit on to put my shoes on.

Our dog leash now has a dedicated spot and the little stool was already a great support for my foot to tie my shoes! Plus, they just seem meant for this space! Small foyers can be a challenge when designing. Here are 3 ways to dress up your small foyer with a narrow entryway bench that’s sure to make a statement!

7 Small Entryway Ideas For A Great First Impression

One of the most frequently asked questions is: “How to decorate a small foyer?” So often people will take a small space and add a lot of decor to make it look bigger. However, this usually has the opposite effect!

To avoid a messy little foyer, I like to add two simple focal points and style. In today’s post, the two elements are the mirror/artwork and the narrow entrance bench.

But before I get into those details, I also want to point out that my little entryway was fun adding a feature wall in the first place!

This is what my little foyer looked like. Isn’t the cute bench expensive? My father in law did it for me. But if you’re looking for your own narrow entryway bench, fear not, I’ve got a few of my favorites in this post!

Going back to the wall, very boring. The first time I tried to make it non-boring, it came out messy. Cute but still messy.

So I followed my advice from my book Designing a Life: From Home to Shelter and figured out what was missing.

Can you see the difference before and after?! So much more interesting! And the decor hasn’t even been added yet, other than my feeble attempt to make the room look decorated. Ha!

So when in doubt, adding an architectural detail can take a small entrance from blah to beautiful in its own right.

21 Hallway Décor Ideas For This Often Overlooked Space

My entryway wall decor has changed very little over the seasons. I found a nice and simple mirror and decorated it. The item that gives me more flexibility is my narrow entrance bench.

I needed a very small bench to fit this room with doors on both sides. My father-in-law made me this little bench, and it’s the one piece of furniture that my Instagram friends always ask me about!

So I thought I’d share a few ways to style a small foyer with a narrow entry bench!

The best thing about using a piece of furniture as your main decor is that you can add and remove simple accents like pillows and baskets to change the look.

The bench also serves a practical purpose by providing seating for putting on shoes and storing items such as hats and gloves.

Last spring I let some live plants and a cute hat speak for themselves. Adding neutral curves adds texture and divides the space vertically.

A single lap pillow from my favorite pillow store adds some comfort and style, but stays simplistic. (You can use the code GRACE15 in the Bianca store to get 15% off your order!)

If you have the space, I also love my console table. Obviously, this post focuses on small foyers, and my desk is quite large. However, there are many small console tables which are a good option for creating a drop zone or simply adding a nice touch of decor.

As you can see, spring and summer entryway decor is very simple. So often we feel like we need to make big changes to a room to make it feel fresh. However, it is much easier (and cheaper) to make small changes in color and texture.

For autumn, I replaced the cushions (from the same manufacturer above) with darker shades that imitate nature in autumn.

I also changed the baskets for a new look and added some fall colors. Nothing has changed!

If you follow me on Instagram, you might remember my leaf wall. This was a fan favorite last year for being SO EASY! I love adding amazing elements to this room to give it a great feel.

You can also see how I styled my entryway for Christmas here! It looks complicated, but it’s really that easy to pronounce!

I chose very simple for the winter. I wanted to change the mirror situation a bit without buying anything new. So I added this realistic magnolia leaf wreath for a surprise.

I also replaced the basket with a vintage find that looks cozier than my other baskets. The addition of fluffy pine keeps the wintry feel.

Then I simplified my console table. I love how it feels with piles of books and cozy lights for winter.
