Design Ideas For Small Bedrooms – If you have a small bedroom, you know the true meaning of “healthy sleep”. Maybe your full-size mattress gives your favorite bedroom the feel of a bouncy castle (or more specifically, a padded cell). Or perhaps the 12-inch gap between the base of the bed frame and your wall requires rear leveling to keep up with the casting

. But a small sleeping space doesn’t have to be a nightmare when it comes to interior design. “I much prefer small bedrooms to large ones,” emphasizes A-list designer Michelle R. Smith of ELLE DECOR. “[My little son] Bash won’t sleep in his bedroom because it’s ‘too big’.”

Small bedrooms, similar to other small spaces such as wet rooms, offer unique creative opportunities. In fact, “the busier the better,” says Smith. “If you have plain, crisp white walls, what makes them different from a closet?” Instead, she suggests adding coziness with striped wallpaper that expands the space or floral wallpaper throughout the room. Smith also recommends using lamps instead of lamps and leaving room for side tables, although a simple carrying shelf will also do. Because “all you need is a place for water and a phone.”

Studios can be more complicated, but when it came to her stunning one-bedroom apartment, ELLE DECOR A-list designer Jean Liu had functionality in mind. “The daybed I sleep on is one of the main seating areas when guests come to visit,” he tells us.

Interior designer Peter Dunham’s Parisian pied-à-terre may only be 300 square feet, but that doesn’t mean he skimped on style. In the bedroom, the ELLE DECOR A-lister simply mastered the space deftly, opting for floating wall lights, a tall wrought copper headboard, and a small bedside table for storing sleeping materials. “This is my Airstream in the sky of Paris,” Dunham told us.

If you’re on a tight budget, consider purchasing an investment for a small bedroom, such as a particularly beautiful bedspread or duvet. Here, ELLE DECOR’s A-list designer Andre Mellone chose a plaid with matching pillows, a choice that fits the rest of the room’s mood palette and gives the feeling of being in a cozy cave with nature right in front of you.

Lacking the knowledge of how to apply DIY wallpaper? Too shy for a bold color? A tapestry can be a solution for a small bedroom. Simply hang one behind your bed for the combined feel of an extended headboard and an elegant, richly textured painting. Here, in his private villa, ELLE DECOR A-List titan Robert Couturier shows us how it’s done.

Gallery owner Valentin Goux tells us that while he doesn’t do “white walls,” he does do a white ceiling in his Parisian bedroom. The light ceiling not only ensures that the small bedrooms are visually raised, but its subtle glow also helps to reflect the light that streams in through the two beautiful windows.

Limited space doesn’t mean you can’t sleep like a queen. For proof, check out this bedroom in a luxurious Aspen home designed by ELLE DECOR A-lister Patrick Mele. Here, the designer installed a whimsical butterfly print canopy over the bed. The structure does not take up a single gram of additional square meters and has the wonderful effect of creating a “room within a room”. Does this mean we can call our apartment a two-bedroom apartment?

If you don’t like a fabric canopy, you should opt for a bed frame that adds architectural accents. Designer Sam Sacks kept this Toronto bedroom fresh and white to make the custom four-poster bed the focal point of the room.

Designed by Schuyler Samperton, this boho-chic room has plenty of tricks up its sleeve. Striped wallpaper adds height, while a predominantly blue color palette creates a cozy look. Samperton also made sure the accessories were stacked vertically (check out this beautifully designed nightstand!), a move that coordinates with the upward lines of the backdrop and headboard.

Whether you’re choosing a shirt or decorating a room, vertical stripes create the illusion of height. In the guest bedroom of her New Orleans home, designer Michelle R. Smith covered the walls in Lewis & Wood’s classic blue stripes. A soft blue velvet quilt and charming vintage artwork give the room a cozy, fairytale feel.

You might think that a maximalist pattern would dominate the most unusual rooms, but in reality, like a mirror, it hides the beginning and end of the walls. We’re particularly obsessed with this fierce cheetah look, courtesy of designer Lori Deeds. Les Touches Bruschwig & Fil’s classic pattern brings Palm Beach glamor that’s surprisingly neutral.

We’re here for glamping – especially if the tent was designed by Veere Grenney. In this London townhouse, the decorator wrapped the combined dressing and sleeping areas in striped Le Gracieux fabric to create height while stylishly enveloping sleep.
