Design Ideas Quilt – I hope you have a great summer! My name is Amanda Murphy and I am the Short and Long Spokesperson for BERNINA. Special thanks to the team for inviting me to share some tips for easy shirt designs today!

It’s always great to have a few quick “go” patterns handy to finish off your custom quilt. If you’ve already given up on blocks and borders, but feel like you need a little more fun, here are some fun patterns for you.  (I settled on the BERNINA Q24 length, but the same principles apply whether you do these designs long or at home.)

Design Ideas Quilt

The first is a simple and retro pattern. Many mattresses feel comfortable with this design because it usually mimics the movement of our fabric under our device. The thing to really watch here is that I aim to get close but not touch the bottom and bottom of my dress. This will give you a cleaner result, because if you relax a little, no one will be the wiser. To do this, check that the foot is touching the bottom and top of the frame, not the needle. You can also line up the edge of your feet on your front mat to ensure even spacing. Try sticking up and down the sides of this motif and see what you like best.

I also like to put a loop on the loop. They update quickly and look great with many other designs. I usually put scrolls in other areas of the bed to visually tie everything together. You can make them narrow or wide, diagonal or vertical. Their appearance reflects your handwriting many times, so go with what works for you. I’ve put a capital letter here, an “l” like a lowercase letter, and a small circle like an “e”. Note that again, I’m aiming to touch the bottom and top of where my foot runs, not the needle.

The third pattern I want to show you is a bone. I love this design. It’s actually a variation of loops, but with the rods you make loops both above and below as you go over the fly. These fillers work well on almost any surface – not just dirt. Here, I sew it wide (for a quick finish) and narrow (for a tighter filling) and both work equally well.

The last design I want to show you today is a ribbon candy. It takes a bit more practice than some of the other designs, but it’s a workhorse!

I think of two things here. First, I try to visualize the stitching around the circle at the top and bottom of the design. It helps me stay consistent by offering me the right size coin, a dime or a nickel depending on where I’m trying to fill. Remember, this design, like any other, can be wide or narrow!

My second focus is traveling straight from one curve to the next. Again, let the edge of my foot touch the previous stitch each time to keep the spacing consistent.

I used some of these designs along with some simple ruler work in the new Rulerwork quilt-as-you-go Moon Block app with my Meadow Dance set for Contempo for fall called Meadow Minis. This pattern will be shipped later this month and I’m excited to show you that the ruler works and can move freely when attached.

I’ve put together a PDF guide for you to stick with your machine while you do the four blade design: FMQ Ideas for Easy Cutting with the BERNINA Q24 Long Arm Machine Hi Guys! A few years ago I shared this post with Flower Quilt Block Lovers. I’ve updated the post today to include more projects and inspiration along with lots of new designs and hopefully you’ll get some ideas for what you want to do.

Although it’s still nice and warm here, the weather is starting to feel different and the feeling of fall is starting to creep in. My flowers are starting to wilt a bit, but my tomatoes are coming on strong. It’s my favorite time of the year. It got me in the mood to start some fall themed sewing projects and quilts.

I started these wool yarn blocks a few years ago. The Cloud Bed Blocks were created in conjunction with Lori Holt’s Autumn Love images and bedding. I pulled Lori Holt fabrics from recent collections (I love how they all play well together) to make some coordinating blocks.

It was fun to finish a few years ago and I love hiking in the fall. You
