Design Reading Corner – I have piles of books around the house that I’ve been meaning to read. Decorative books, gardening manuals, memoirs and non-fiction books alike, but although I am a long-time member of a book club that meets monthly, I rarely pick up a hard copy. Instead, I rely mostly on Audible, listening through headphones as I walk to pick up my daughter from school, clean the house, or cook. However, with the current shelter in order, I once again looked at the pile of books and dreamed of creating a reading nook in the corner. It seems like the perfect way to silence the noise and steal a few quiet moments for myself. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Here’s how to make your own.
1. Define the space with a carpet. This subtle blue pattern anchors the space without feeling too busy.

2. Choose a comfortable chair. I like the high back and the winged arms because it’s easy to wear.

3. Add a side table. You can also get creative with a chair, plant stand or in this case a repurposed bar cart.
4. Insert work lights. There’s nothing sexy about straining your eyes, so this is essential. We love how this vintage brass fixture adds a little sparkle to the mix and makes it feel more lived in.
5. Choose a decorative pillow, this is the easiest way to set the tone and adds much needed back support. We like this one because it picks up the color of the rug and adds texture.
6. Cover the chair with a comfortable blanket. Perfect for coziness when the temperature drops, we love this soft knit.

7. Think green with a houseplant. Not only does it clean the air, but connecting with nature helps us feel grounded (even when you can’t get outside).
8. Hang some art that you love. This particular print has lived with me through many apartments and makes me happy every time I see it. I mounted it with a command hook so it won’t damage the wall if I decide to mix things up.
9. Start styling your coffee table. Since this one has two levels, I used the lower shelves to display my new puzzles from last week’s post.
10. The most important books…! Move the pile of books you’ve been meaning to read into your newly carved out reading nook.

11. Add a scented candle for ambiance. We love this one for its beautiful glass container and the fact that it’s a dead ringer for much more expensive perfumes.
12. Grab your favorite mug. There’s nothing better than a warm drink to help you relax and unwind.
* Not pictured, you can add an ottoman or pouf for foot rest. I ended up adding one later.

Creating A Cozy Reading Nook For Our Kids
Although the term “reading room” actually refers to a room dedicated solely to our all-time favorite activity, we use the term lightly. We are aware that not everyone has the space to devote an entire room to an occasional hobby (and if they did, it would probably be a home office in the first place).
Instead, the reading room is any cozy nook, makeshift nook, or plush sofa cushion in your home that you want to sink into immediately with the latest page-turner. Simply add a lamp, a practical coffee table or side table and a cozy blanket and voila – you have a reading room.
Accessible to all, we have rounded up some of our favorite cozy corners that are also the right corner for books. From a windowsill seat to a double-duty office, the following 11 spaces prove that a “reading room” is only a comfortable armchair away. If you need us, we’ll set up camp in this lovely corner of the TV room courtesy of designers Maha Boulfelfel and Keltie Knight. This bright and airy space (with natural sunlight) is the perfect backdrop for a bold, rustic reading chair, a side table with a side table, and a cozy accent.
How To Create A Cosy Reading Corner
We don’t mind if our reading chair happens to be right next to the drinks cabinet, how about you? Small spaces often have to do double duty, and this reading nook, barstool, living room is a perfect example. Add a decorative cushion and side table and you have a reading room.
We are all familiar with the reading chair, but have you ever thought about a reading lounge? Not at all. This large reading room is actually located inside designer Vivian Torres’ apartment in Denver, Colorado. He chose a cozy library-inspired living room, with wide lounge chairs and a fireplace.
We won’t tell anyone that this is actually the other half of the home office if you don’t tell anyone that we’re 100% asleep at noon on this couch. As our VP of Creativity and Design proves, the home office is the perfect place for an impromptu reading hole – just add a side table and comfy cushions for after-work reading.
If in doubt, save space for a large, comfortable reading chair in the living room, study or bedroom for a quick moment of the Reading Room – it’s that simple. Details like ottomans for everyone, ambient floor lamps, textured sheepskin rugs, and pleated curtains add function and a little library-style drama.
4 Cozy Reading Nooks You’ll Want In Your Home Right Now
Located in the foyer of a historic home decorated with a fireplace built in 1884, this small but powerful reading nook feels as cozy and inviting as the space of an entire room. A comfortable cobalt blue chair, functional blanket and pillow, work lamp and versatile coffee table check form and function.
This cozy nook is proof that you can 100% create a reading space in a small home – this apartment is only 700 square feet. designer Heather Goerzen chose a comfortable sink-in-me chair, a functional side table, a sculptural lamp and cozy touches such as fresh flowers, candles and, of course, cake and wine.
A place to curl up with a book. Keep things clean and minimal during the day and grab your favorite blanket and read the moment dusk falls and bam: you have a reading nook.
When you’re a published author, you’ll obviously make room for a dedicated reading room in your home.
