A designer is someone who prepares drawings and plans before creating something, rearranging it, planning its shape and structure to make the world and the products we use better.

The Different Types Of Construction Technology

As a school, we offer a structure and sequence of lessons to ensure that all children gain the skills they need to meet the objectives of the National Curriculum. Curriculum design focuses on original and imaginative productions of all students. Children at St Helen’s are inspired by a range of practical lessons to create innovative solutions to real and relevant problems in a variety of contexts. All lessons follow our school’s design process, guiding children from evaluating their current product to market analysis and final design. Children are empowered to take risks and innovate in identifying real and relevant problems, critically evaluating existing products, then designing and creating solutions to these problems. Giving children the opportunity to appreciate the individuals who have helped shape the world of design, showing the real impact design and technology has on the way we live today, and helping them become the next generation of innovators. Our curriculum allows children to see the connections between science, design and technology, and leverage their previous and current learning to achieve those outcomes.

Children are encouraged to follow the design process of researching, analyzing, designing, creating and evaluating using different tools and materials in different situations.

Children are challenged to identify, investigate and solve practical problems to improve existing situations, utilizing disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and the arts to produce a final product.

Students learn by studying past and present designers, innovative technologies, and craftspeople to develop an understanding of how the products in our daily lives have evolved into what we know today. Throughout the course, students learn to think outside the box and become curious creative people capable of producing high-quality designs.

Software Development Technologies: Explanation With Examples

In St. Helens, we use an advanced design curriculum. Design and technology skills and understanding are built into the course through our design process. Lessons and materials help children build on previous knowledge while introducing new skills, knowledge and challenges. Key vocabulary is included in every lesson and additional resources allow children to review key terms and apply them to their learning. All children participate in the Design and Technology curriculum and receive adult guidance and support to produce a high-quality final product. Through this learning, we help students develop a love of Design and Technology and see how it helps shape the ever-evolving technological world where they live.

Teachers have high expectations and provide evidence of quality in a variety of ways. St. Helen will gain the confidence to critique their own work and provide positive feedback about their own and others’ artwork. 2nd graders have completed their DT sock theme! They used stitches to join the fabric and then decorated it with fabric dowels, sequins, and pom poms!

Year 6 have been working hard to complete their final products for our wood craft DT theme. We cut the joint gasket and used sandpaper to create a smooth finish on our picture frame. We can’t wait to show you the final result

Grades 5 and 6 create animated games that combine various CAMs to create different movements, styles and designs. Children as young as six created designs based on their class’s novel Shackleton’s Voyage.

This year, children celebrated Design and Technology Day for the first time. Our students have explored many design periods, from historical to modern, and presented individually to the class to design furniture in the styles they studied. What a great day across the school, a wonderful example of assessment, research, comparison, contrast, feature and design work from all our children.

Year 5 children were invited to St Hild’s to take part in a STEM event where children designed, built, tested and evaluated their own racing cars. The children enjoyed the day and St Hild’s staff commented on how amazing our children were. 5 years of great work!
