Design Templates For Microsoft Powerpoint – I want to set MyFile.potx as the default PowerPoint template. How do I do it? I’m using the version that comes with Office 365 and the instructions I’ve found online for other versions of PowerPoint (2013, 2016) don’t seem to work. I’m using Windows 10 and I’m not an administrator of Office 365 settings, just a user.
For example, when creating a new presentation, there is no option between Personal and Custom in my version of PowerPoint:

That was the problem that led me to this question. With PowerPoint for Office 365 it provided me with one
, but couldn’t get the Personal Templates option to appear where it should according to the documentation and screenshots in this thread.
The solution was to open the template file itself and save it again using my Office 365 version of PowerPoint. The template was probably created using an earlier version of PowerPoint.
I’m using a recent version (2023) of PowerPoint for 365 and none of the above answers worked for me.

Save as Template —> File –> Save as Template (alternatively, you can copy the .potx file and paste it into the Templates folder
At the bottom of the window you will see the option to “Save Current Theme”. Select your template layout and save the current layout. Give it a name and save it in the theme folder.
Go to the “Theme” tab, open the theme gallery, find the theme you want to use, right-click and select “Set as default theme”.
