Dining Room Buffet Decor Ideas – Remember Betty White? No, not the actual person (although, she’s what I want when I grow up), but the sideboard we made and lovingly named “Betty White” a month ago?
Until this morning, it sat empty because I was at a loss as to how to style the top so it wouldn’t cover the large, gathered antique mirror wall behind it.

But since we’ve been home for oh… an eternity… I’ve finally thought about it and styled this beauty quite a bit!
Cozy Fall Dining Room Decor
I tossed and turned for hours trying to remove the stump until I found the perfect traditional and rustic vase in a blue and white print to tie in with the other blue tones in our dining room.
In my case, the beautiful blue and white vase. I prefer to put the longest thing at the end, not in the middle.
When you look at a set of decorative items, it should look like a triangle. Did you see it? It is more pleasing to the eye. (But hey, avoid breaking the rules if you know anyway. It’s a great “safe” zone.)
When looking at the buffet, style the items in groups of three. So for example, the vase and the small black bowl at one end are a set. The pair of jugs and beads at the other end is a set. And the wooden bowl of the stack of books in the middle is a set.
Dining Delight: Beach Themed Decor For The Kitchen Sideboard
It could be a bunch of flowers, a potted plant, stems in a vase or moss in a bowl, but no matter what, a little leaf makes a space come alive.
Try to include 3-4 different types of materials: glass, stone, wood, metal, paper, basket weaving, etc. In this case, I’ve included ceramic (vase), wood (beads and bowls), paper (books), and granite (black bowl) to add texture. I stuck with neutral colors to keep it feeling earthy, but hit it with a blue print to make it a focal point.
That’s it! Maybe this helps? It’s been a while since I’ve done a simplified decorating post, but I hope it’s helpful for small areas around your home when you’re feeling stuck and need some handy rules to lean on. table for a client and he couldn’t believe how stylish it was in just minutes using things he already had (half of which were hidden inside the sideboard). So today I thought I’d share my top tips for styling your sideboard. Like your coffee table, there are certain design rules, but otherwise, you can use whatever you own. No need to shop. Also, I can’t stand it when I read something and it has more than a couple of tips, like I remember everything. So here I am giving you 3 quick and easy ideas to take your buffet table from blah to, well, not blah.
I found these perfect examples of buffet style. I love using the tray, you can store a stocked mini bar in it if you don’t have space for a bar cart, or like me, a collection of serving pieces. Also, it is common for most dining rooms to have some sort of ceiling light or a chandelier. I like to add a table lamp to the buffet table (or bar cart) in the dining room because, well, sometimes you’re at home and want some nice lighting in the dining space, but not necessarily a chandelier. So always remember to find a place for a nice table lamp. Finally, it is important to play at different heights. This is for any type of table styling, you can see how great designers do it below.

Admit it Now that I’m done decorating our playroom (see the reveal here!), I’m moving on to our little dining room makeover. A piece of furniture that will definitely remain in our dining room today is this buffet table.
You can see my original dining room unveiled here. Here are the things I changed in this mini-make:
Eventually, I will also replace our dining room table and chairs because the table is too small for the space.
But first, I focused on decorating the buffet table! Read on to see three different design options for your dining room buffet or sideboard!
Diy Hidden Buffet Storage Piece (dining Room Update)
In addition to the buffet table, I also put canvas prints on it. I found them at HomeGoods a few years ago and the colors match the sideboard very well.
This option adds better greenery and flowers using neutral tones and pieces I own. In my opinion, bigger trees usually look more realistic. I already have the candles and the Tuscan pot. As you can see in this photo, decorating a sideboard is easier with sets of 3 – ie. 3 candles of different heights on one side, a larger vase, a small flower and an accent piece on the other side.
This option shows the lamps on either side of the buffet, which adds good height and weight to the ends of the table because they are enough lamps. I like the symmetry this option provides, but I don’t think I need more light in my space. You should also add other textures and shorter objects like I showed with the clock and the bone boxes with beads placed on top.
Another option is to combine the two by using an anchor lamp and something in greenery to anchor the other side. In this design, I used two picture frames of different sizes to solve my problem with awkward picture frames. Photo frames tend to look best in groups!
