In the United States, Indian festivals that fall on weekdays are held on weekends; By visiting temples or organizing a gathering to celebrate the festival with friends. Since it is not a holiday, the actual day of the festival is business as usual and it is very difficult to find time from the daily grind to do something important.

But this is the life I chose. So, try to keep traditions alive and create beautiful memories for our future children. My husband and I celebrate all festivals at home, including Diwali, which may not be as grand as the backyard, but is sweet enough to add meaning to the day.

Every Diwali I light diyas around the house and try to celebrate it with friends with a big feast. This year’s Diwali is very special as it will be our first Diwali in a new house and our last as a family of 3. Next year we will celebrate it with our little one.

I want Diwali to be as fun for our son as it was for us when we were kids. One possible way is to decorate the house and create a festive atmosphere. Here are some ideas on how to jazz up your home for Diwali.

On my last visit to India. These are some of the common things I get from India every time I go. Diya is a clay lamp used in the Indian region.
