It’s the perfect time to host a Diwali party to teach family and friends about the traditions of our culture. Our family has organized a party to celebrate this festival, so this post contains unique and beautiful Diwali party ideas to plan an amazing party for your guests.

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a popular and celebrated festival in India. During Diwali, houses are cleaned and decorated with rangolis and designs are made from colored rice, sand or flowers. It is a time to visit near and dear ones, exchange gifts, wear new clothes, share food, light bonfires and feed the poor.

Hosting the festival of Diwali provides a great opportunity to teach our children about the traditions of our culture. For those of us who do not live in India, we have a great responsibility to pass on the best traditions of our culture to the next generation.

The best way to teach our children about our work and culture is through hands-on experience, letting them help create events that reinforce those traditions.

Diwali usually falls from mid-October to mid-November every year according to the lunar calendar. If you are looking for ideas on how to plan and host a Diwali party, you will need to carefully consider the following items, all of which will help create an unforgettable party that your guests will love.

Preparations for celebrating Diwali started months in advance with deep cleaning, cooking sweet and savory dishes and buying new clothes and other household items at home. I went out to celebrate Diwali this year with my family and friends. I had to choose items from the list above, and food and home decor are a big part of my event planning process.

I decided to have our party outside instead of indoors. I had a vision for my Diwali party, but I had the help of Pinterest and Instagram to create my ideas. These pages have helped me complete my vision beyond the yard. I started making lists, thinking about what I needed and planning things for the event.

If you are looking for outdoor lighting ideas for your party, I hope the lights we used at our Diwali party will inspire you. We wanted to create incredible lighting that would really accentuate the event space so our guests could really experience the event. Our event took place in November in southern Louisiana, which is usually the best time to set up outdoors. Diwali is the “Festival of Lights”, so we wanted to do our best to light up our home for the occasion.

A great idea for Diwali celebrations is to hang LED lights in your home to set the mood and ambience of the event. For our event we wrapped our trees in the yard with lights. Akhil decided to use mesh/mesh lights instead of traditional Christmas lights on pine trees and other tall trees, and it really showed on the trees. Overall, the lamp created a pleasant ambiance and helped illuminate the dark background.

The idea I thought about for the event presentation and the table is to make something nice and colorful for this space. In order for this move to be possible, we had to rearrange our yard and move our daughter’s swing to the neighbor’s (with their permission, of course).

I used colored tulle fabric to create the tulle fabric, adding the color I needed and further accentuating the ambiance I wanted to create. I recycled tulle fabric I had from a Holi party decoration. You can read my post on Holi; you might find it interesting.

We then added lights behind the tulle to illuminate the curtain, which created a stunning backdrop for our Diwali backdrop. For more information on how to add lights to your outfit and where to buy them, be sure to read Diwali lights to brighten up your home.

We also hung faux marigolds, white jasmine flowers, and fabric tassels on the curtain, which I sourced from India through various sellers on Etsy. Any Diwali celebration would not be complete without some kind of flowers and decorations.

I used old washed planks as a table for one of the party seating. These units add a lot of character to the overall system. To enhance the Diwali look, I placed small metal frames and decorations on the sides to hold lanterns, various cylindrical glass vases, wine glasses with floating candles, fresh flowers, candle holders and leaves on old tree trunks.

I placed an oval copper vase placed in the center along with colorful votive lamps and flower petals. I also placed tall lamps on the sides of the furniture to add more lighting and a warm ambiance.

In total, I had five seating groups, two of which had a fire pit. This allowed guests to move freely between the front and back. I didn’t need to rent chairs or tables for this event, but you can rent tables and chairs from event rental stores if you need to accommodate your guests.

Since our Diwali celebrations were outside, I kept a close eye on the weather forecast for the day. As planned, cool weather was expected on the day of our celebration, so I arranged two seating areas with fireplaces to keep guests warm during the event. I also rented a heat lamp for the morning from a party rental place to keep our guests warm. We also advise all guests to dress appropriately for outdoor events on chilly nights.

Everyone likes to take pictures to commemorate the event. I created a space where my guests could create lasting memories of this special event. We added brightly colored marigolds and fabric to decorate the tree branches to make it festive. I also added a beautiful set of copper Urli with lotus carving on the rim of the pot which includes rose petals, flowers and floating candles. The Urlis copper trim was the perfect piece to accent the backdrop and this angle added another level to the overall look.

Any Indian party/celebration would not be complete without food as food is an integral part of this event in India. When I decided on my Diwali party list, I thought almost half of my guests would be non-Indian. I wanted to show how important food is to Indian celebrations, so I focused not only on serving food but also on serving it well.
