Diy Birthday Party Decoration Ideas At Home – Sharing her best tips for inexpensive homemade kids birthday party decorations (that always look innovative and awesome!).
With four kids, we’ve thrown a lot of birthday parties over the years. We’ve also hosted friends’ children’s parties and honestly, I think it’s so much fun. When I shared some of my kids’ birthday party themes, I got a few questions in the DMs and I thought I’d make a post with the top three tips I share all the time.

We use these items for almost every party we host to create innovative kids parties on a budget.

Almost all the games we played were at home. Until last year, our children loved hosting their friends for birthday parties and choosing a theme for the decorations and fun.
Last year, my daughter wanted to have a swimming party at our local pool and we decorated that party room like we do our house, so these tips are perfect for the house, but they can also be used for other places. !
I love being able to throw a birthday party for my kids – it’s completely customized to them and their preferences, it’s a hit with their friends and it helps me pay for a themed party that was sent to me.
I also love brainstorming and being creative with my kids. It is a special time that we spend together, brainstorming ideas and I can hear more about what they like as they dream together their party ideas. I definitely recommend making time for this! I do this when we decorate their rooms too!

Here’s the thing, I love parties. I really like children’s parties in our house. If you don’t like birthday parties… that’s okay too. You don’t have to do things my way. Even if they are not your favorites, but you are ready to host one – these tips will help make things easier and cheaper 🙂
I had a lot against the themes. I don’t know what it was, but I wanted to be creative and I didn’t want to be associated with a particular cartoon or anything like that. As my kids have gotten older, our themes have become much more recognizable because…that’s what they love! And their party should be about what they love!
But aside from making your kids happy… a theme will help you make decorating decisions much easier. If you don’t want a complete theme, even just choosing some colors or elements for your theme will help you.
Once you have chosen a theme, then choose some colors to work with. I like to start with black and white to create a modern theme, then add some color. Starting with black and white will instantly coordinate things and modernize almost any theme.

You can choose your additional colors in several ways. Choose from what you can get your hands on or from the theme itself. For example, a Pokemon birthday party theme for kids will probably call for red as your accent color. And maybe a yellow LEGO birthday party theme calls.
What if you have multiple options for your theme? Look at what you can get your hands on. For example, for this ice cream themed birthday party, I really wanted to make a honeycomb ice cream backdrop. I chose the colors of the honey balls I had on hand and ran with those colors as the theme colors of the party.
Now that you have a theme and colors, whether you’re brainstorming ideas or finding fun decorating ideas, you can easily choose what you need in your party colors for a custom look!
When I started hosting and decorating parties for baby showers and bridal showers, I decorated the space while I was in college. My friends and I made decorations for each room the guests passed through. For the front door, for the entrance, for the living room, the kitchen, the table,

But too much work and when you sprinkle a little everywhere, the effect is not so great that you focus on one place or a table. Most of the time, I like to leave all the decor in my dining room on the party table.
I also added something to the door… but really that’s if there aren’t activities in another room where the activity acts as decor (eg target balloons for a Nerf party).
For the party table, you can decorate the table itself and the wall or background behind the table. If your setup doesn’t call for a party table, a backdrop also works for guests to take photos. I like to take a photo of the birthday boy in front of this setup as a special photo to put in their photo books to remember how they looked at that stage and what they liked (the party theme).
There are certain tools that I find myself using over and over again for every party. These supplies are very affordable and work for almost any children’s birthday theme.
Hot Wheels Birthday Party At Home While Social Distancing –
Well, let’s talk about these. The balloons are a bit obvious, but I had them attached with helium to have them on the party table and that was the extent of my use of balloons. You can do it completely (I love a big sheet of paper!) or you can shoot it yourself to save some money.
I bought a balloon pump from Amazon a few years ago and it has been great for us. You can throw the balloons in less time for the balloon arch and save yourself from the headache.
This kid has more than paid for himself and I’ll even pack it if I’m going to someone else’s house (or vacation home) to help throw a bachelor party or something. Just wrap the balloons and instead of trying to transport 50 inflated balloons, pump and blow them here!
Balloons arranged in a balloon garland are a simple, impactful piece of decor. You can get bundles of balloons on Amazon that are coordinated to any color or theme and you can easily pop them up and attach them to a balloon garland. I usually just pick out my colors with the kids and we go pick them out at the local dollar store.
Two Sweet Birthday Party
A balloon garland is under $5 and can be used for years. It’s basically a piece of plastic that has holes cut out for you to thread the end of the balloon through. It’s really easy to use and you can just remove the balloons after you’re done to save them for your next party. You can also add some fun bonuses to your balloon garland. Think bees or paper fans or even boa and star balloons.
You can even customize the balloons to match your party theme. Adding paper masks to regular balloons for a superhero theme or ears and eyes for a dog balloon. You can even try writing on them with a paint marker…instant balloon targets for a nerf themed party!
If you have a Cricut or Silhouette, you can also cut out special characters or decorations for your balloons (like I did for this Zuma patrol balloon).
End up using cardboard or poster board for any birthday party…or both. They are so versatile!

I used them for party backdrop pieces and attached them to the wall with double sided tape from the dollar store. I cut the white card into the banners with scissors and a brush marker or turned them to watercolor on a matte side and cut them for a background.
I cut black poster boards into banners or smaller buildings for a superhero city scene with a white paint marker. I cut them into strips to make a large spider web or for signs to share annual milestones.
I used card that way, printing out patterns and cutting them for the walls or cutting them into shapes – foot prints or hexagons (hexagons are actually cut to size, but paper works here too!). Use the paper to cut out letters or pen pieces to make some wreaths too.
Again, scissors work well for this, but if you have access to a Cricut or Silhouette, it will definitely make your party prep go a lot faster.
Diy Neon Glow Party
Speaking of washi tape (or glitter tape) can be used instead of paper towels for some decorations, like the lines on this ice party background.
Aside from the background, the party cake is the only thing that spends time, money or effort to ensure that it is on topic. Aside from the party background, it’s one thing to get photos…those photos blowing out the candles are so sweet, especially when they’re small and the candles are magical!
