Diy Minecraft Party Decoration Ideas – My second son turned eight this year and he wanted a Minecraft birthday party. I’m not sure if Minecraft parties are still “simple” but the game is a big hit with my son and his friends! I spent a lot of time researching ideas for this party, and ended up throwing ideas here and there from what I read and creating my own set of books. It ended up being a fun party with few accidents. I thought it would be good to share how I did this party, what I bought and how I did it if you want to make your own Minecraft birthday party. I’ve never seen so many good free articles online, so I hope this whole forum helps!
So I wasn’t crazy about the decorations because I was more focused on the games. I thought that would be better for boys. I bought two green plastic tables because I think it’s better to have two on the table than just one. The best thing here is to just wrap the towel with all the dirt inside at the end and throw it all out.

I set out black paper plates and lime green napkins. I bought green and black balloons, filled them with helium, and drew creepy eyes on some of them with a black sharpie. The balloons are in the middle of the table and on the side of the house. I also put some food and game items on the table for decoration.

I made two pieces of brownie and cut them into squares. I put it nicely on the black square plate I have, then painted the frosting butter green and stuck it on the brownies and “weeds”. I layered some brownies on top to make it look like Minecraft. Maybe I should have added some fun figures or something, but I ran out of time.
I also made pizza dough, spread it out on a cookie sheet, and made individual pizza slices with creepy eyes on them. I forgot to take a picture of this because I took it right in the middle of the party. In retrospect, this should have been done before the party. The army went through the air! I cut my pepperoni into squares so they look like creepers. It’s a fun activity but I’m not sure the kids care. I should have bought a square pizza at Little Caesar’s or something.
I also have a lot of candies but for the scavenger hunt and take them home. I wrapped child sized water bottles with the printable “Potion of Healing” that I made.
There are three games/activities. The first is a treasure hunt game. Double the book and unwrap a gift layered with 20 gift layers. They used oven mitts and spoons to unwrap the wrapper. Each lower level has a “Sword Diamond”, a blue rock candy sucker and a printable sword handle at the end. This is a great way to start the party.

Then we do the scavenging. I bought some clear plastic buckets at Walmart to collect their stuff in, but it’s too small, so next time I’ll make paper gift bags. I made some “bends” from some leftover MDF I had for the handle and cut a shape out of cardboard and wrapped it in tin foil for the ax head. Then I attached it to the MDF with a heavy duty gun. I thought that was a fun bonus.
I made 9 points for each of our 8 items on the list. Everyone grabs a bucket, an ax and a list book and I read the first sign. The first clue is the coal you get by mining ‘mountains’ so go up to the game room and find coal ‘buried’ under a mountain of blocks. I want them to do a fishing pole for the next article, so get a spider web, like a game. The spiders are black balloons that they have to break. And they took the poles and the rope, and gathered them together.
The next thing was fishing, so they threw the line over the fence and my older son and his friend were cutting the fish baskets. They got the tag later and moved on. There are more mine symbols, one you have to dig through dirt to find (watermelons), and one to defeat the creeps (green balloons to get TNT). I put three items in some boxes I made from black tape and clear boxes.
The last step is to create their own trash. We followed this simple recipe but there was a problem because the cheap glue solution I bought didn’t have the right ingredients to activate the glue and the chemical reaction. So make sure it contains sodium borate and boric acid. So after I found out, I got my own personal contact solution and I used it and it worked. We put the garbage in these little plastic cups that I got at Hobby Lobby with lids. I printed a special label for these cups and they turned out great! The two weeks before Christmas were especially hectic because it was Jack’s birthday then. Every year I try to create a really fun party for her to help her birthday not get bogged down in the busyness of the holiday season. This past year he’s gotten into Minecraft (TBH our whole family is pretty geeky), so we had to do a Minecraft themed birthday party.

All three of us are Minecraft characters for Halloween, so I saved these costumes as party decorations (pictured below is Dan’s costume). Some of the decorations are Minecraft party decorations from Target, like the tablecloth, but most of them are DIY! I grabbed some of Jennifer Maker’s printable decorations and then tweaked some of her downloads in Photoshop to add them.
One of the funniest ideas he got was to include food in the game as party food. So we have melons (watermelons), apples, carrots, sticks (chocolate pocky), chicken (chicken steak), rotten meat (beef) and medicine (apple juice and koolaid). I usually make a really beautiful cake, and this year was one of the hardest ones I’ve made, because it was more difficult to order a square cake, but we did it. I made grass blocks for the floor layer, and made green fondant and green food coloring painted squares for the grass, then sprinkled brown with chocolate icing for the dirt part. Then the TNT is printed on paper, the letters are cut out and dipped in water.
We made a Minecraft bead pattern as a craft, it was definitely a 7/8 year old craft, but really fun.
I have a feeling this will continue in the future, so this may not be my last Minecraft birthday, but it’s a fun one!
