Diy Rope Decoration Ideas – If you’re on Pinterest as much as I am, you’ve probably seen DIY rope bee sketches from time to time. I know I’ve done it before, but I had no choice but to try it myself, so I made this DIY Rope Beehive/Bee Skep.
Made (mostly) with Wood Dollar items, it’s a super affordable and easy DIY project that even beginners can master.

As with all my DIY projects, I recorded the steps to revive this DIY Rope Beehive/Bee Skep in a LIVE video on my Facebook page.

I’m using a plastic planter from Dollar Tree as a beehive trap, but first I need to start stringing it up. To do this, start twisting the ends of the rope inward to create a circle. Use hot glue to secure the rope in place.
Continue wrapping the rope in a circular motion and hot glue until the circle is large enough to cover the bottom of the plastic planter.
Next, place the planter over the rope loop and begin looping the rope loop over and over around the outside crack. Now let’s start making the basket!

Since you will be using multiple nautical ropes, once you reach the end of the first piece, hot glue the end of the second piece to create a continuous rope and continue wandering. Wrap the rope around it and hot glue it in place.
If you use plastic planters like I do, be careful not to burn the cord on the planter. We don’t keep the planter inside the rope, we just use it to shape the beehive.
Once you are satisfied with the height of the hive, stop twisting and cut the end of the rope. Next, you will need white jute thread.
Turn the rope basket to see the shape and height of the honeycomb. Hot glue a piece of white jute twine to the O on the side of the rope honeycomb. To make sure the O was the size I wanted, I preheated the yarn before cutting the strips.

Once the yarn circle was complete, I took some black paint I had on hand (Dixiebell Midnight Sky Chalk Paint; you can also use Apple Barrel Black Acrylic Paint) and painted it on the inside of the white jute yarn.
You can paint the circle black and thread the thread around it. This way you don’t have to worry about getting black paint on the white thread.
Next, I added a little bee sticker that I picked up at Hobby Lobby. I bought Studio Paper products when they were 50% off (score!)!
I hot glued the stickers and placed them randomly on my DIY rope beehive/honeycomb.
Cool Things To Make With Rope
The last thing I added to this Dollar Tree DIY Bee Skep was a hanger, but this time I did something a little different.
As you know, I always save art supplies to use only in specific areas. For this project, I disassembled the Dollar Tree millinery sign, removed these parts, and hung them.
I added glue to the inside center and top center of the honeycomb, then pressed in the right side with hot glue.
I then bent the bottom link of the chain and connected it to the basket hook.
