Serve amazing food with cocktails and add a bunch of plants and flowers for ambiance. And you have a beautiful outdoor (or indoor) Fête Champet.
Many say it’s not a real garden party unless it’s celebrated outside in the garden, but I disagree. You can create a beautiful indoor garden party by adding a colorful and warm decoration with lots of beautiful flowers and plants.

In my house, there is no better place to enjoy a garden party than Potojar Gardens. This patio area includes my raised garden beds where I grow vegetables and is also our outdoor dining area.
When I hosted the garden party featured in this post, we moved in about 8 months ago, so this garden room is still a work in progress. Today, this space is still one of my favorites on our property and a place I love to host friends and family.

The first thing to think about when planning an outdoor garden party is seating. Once you’ve decided on your venue, you need to think about how many people you’re inviting and what kind of event you want to have.
If you’re planning a garden dinner, everyone needs a seat at a real table. However, if you’re having a more casual cocktail party, you can get away with using patio tables, chairs, and even couches.
Use existing outdoor seating whenever possible to make your life easier. Even a simple picnic table can look beautiful when you add a tablecloth or table and beautiful place settings.

If you’re inviting kids, I like to throw decorative outdoor blankets and pillows on the floor for picnic-style seating.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of planning a garden party is the decorations. If you’re having your party in a real garden like I am, you’ll already be surrounded by beautiful flowers. But even if you’re hosting an indoor garden party, there are plenty of ways to bring a garden feel to your gathering.
I like to use bright floral colors like pinks, purples and yellows when decorating a garden party. These colors are especially beautiful if you combine them with natural greens and neutral colors such as white and beige.
Another beautiful way to create a garden party environment is to incorporate different textures and patterns into your decor. You can make a garden party more or less formal, and for today’s tablescape, I’m going for a more casual vibe that’s easy to put together.
If you have access to flowers and greenery in your landscape, you can cut them fresh to create an economical table setting idea for a garden dinner.
As far as centerpieces go, this one is easy to make. Grab some vases, jars and bud jars of various sizes, fill them with water and add your favorite cut flowers.

Since we’re working with fresh flowers, here’s what you need to do to extend the life of potted flowers. If you choose to work with freshly cut hydrangeas, follow these tips before arranging the hydrangea flowers in a pot to prevent them from wilting.
For my centerpiece, I cut a bunch of zinnias and celiosas from my summer gardens. I started with the big vase, arranged the flowers and then moved on to the smaller vases and the buds.
Depending on the time of year you’re having a garden party, you’ll want to choose flowers that represent the season. So if you’re having a spring garden party, think tulips and daffodils. Instead of adding a table for this Fete Champetre, I used vase flowers as tables to play up the garden party theme. If you want to add more comfortable mattresses, you can easily add a runner table as well.
To start, I used this beautiful boho green tablecloth. I love the stitching and border detail on this one, it’s such a beautiful green as a backdrop for a fresh floral centrepiece.
After setting the table with my beautiful tablecloth, I added my fresh vases of flowers. They are all different heights, so I mixed and matched until I had an aesthetically pleasing center design.
For each place setting, I started with a cedar branch placemat and finished it off with a beautiful saucer like this one. If you can’t find cedar branches, you can DIY them with these fake cedar branches and a piece of felt, or use a small box wreath.

Then these vintage amber goblets and lead crystal wine glasses were added. I added a beautiful off-white linen napkin with gold cutlery in burlap cutlery bags.
As I was setting up this table I was greeted by the cutest creature that swayed as I added more flowers to the table. The butterflies here love my ‘Senorita’ zinnias, so I shouldn’t be surprised if they fall off my table.
I cut these flowers from the garden a few hours before the party so the butterflies were still drinking the sweetness from these brightly colored flowers. If you plant certain flowers, you can attract these pollinators to your garden (or table, obviously). This attracts butterflies.
Since my backyard garden party was in the evening, I added some candles for ambiance. But there are many beautiful options for this
