Good Book Character Costume Ideas

Good Book Character Costume Ideas – I have always loved dressing up as a book character. In the past, my school had this day on the Friday before Halloween. We are looking for ways for students to dress up while still focusing on education, not Halloween. A few times we even did it to celebrate Read Across America. Here are my favorite character costume ideas for students!

Most students also enjoy the day. But I quickly noticed that many students did not understand what they were doing. They did not know that their clothes should be the same as the characters in the book. And some parents do not take the time to talk to them.

Good Book Character Costume Ideas

The first year was a learning experience for me. I am often asked by students if there is a book with a monster or a Ninja Turtle? They are upset because they did not think they could participate.

Next year it’s ready. I created a list of book characters that most students can wear as a little preparation and it does not cost much (if any). It is very important for me to find a way for all students to get involved no matter what.

Also, one requirement for today is that each student must be able to tell his teacher about the name of his character and the title of the book from the character. Some teachers actually push students to bring back a book. And as I fully understand, it is not always possible if parents can not afford to buy books or libraries do not have copies of books for their children to use. So I ended up printing a lot of book covers for students to use instead.

When I created my list, I made copies for the students and spent a few minutes discussing the clothing ideas they could create. Of course, these conversations ended with spending most of our lessons, but I felt it was worth it. Kids are excited to talk about books and read and be inspired by creative ways to create clothes.

I spent a lot of time creating my book character list and wanted to share it with other librarians and teachers. Below I have listed some of my favorite book character costumes with D.I.Y. Introduction. You can download the full list at the bottom of this post.
