As I look through my folder, I realize that a sketch gives me an idea or reminds me of a cube that could achieve a similar effect.  I very rarely follow a draft map in its entirety.

Greeting Card Design Ideas

My method starts with a paper mat – usually a 6″ x 6″ mat or a 6″ x 8″ mat.

First, I tear off all the pages and place them one by one on the table.  Since there are usually two copies of each pattern with an alternate pattern on the back, I have placed them together.  Both sides of the paper together.

This works well with some pads, such as those from Echo Park.  One side of the paper is taken, and the other side complements it with a more subtle pattern.

I am a believer in NOT reinventing the wheel!  The block designer has done his best to make sure all the patterns match, so let’s move on to creating cards with their suggestions.

When using such placemats, I use a subtle pattern as the bottom layer and an intense pattern on the top.

Homemade Birthday Card Ideas!

I cut the base layers from solid-colored cardboard to match the colors in the packaging – always the size of the cardboard base.

Then I arrange all the ephemera into groups – all emotions together, all images together, etc.

The first card is always the hardest, but once you get into the flow it feels like it’s rolling.

I create the cards on a base layer.  We leave the final gluing of the greeting card base to the end.

Then, with a clean table, I add the card faces to the card bases.  When I need quick birthday cards, I use die cut cards.

For horizontally folded cards, I use blank cards and envelopes from Tonic Studios.  The quality of these card packs is amazing.  I’m waiting for them to go on sale and stock up.

Once they’re all together, I put them back on the table and add some sparkle using the Nuvo Aqua Shimmer and the Nuvo Crystal Glaze Pen.  I prefer crystal glaze over shiny accents – that’s what I like!

I try to use sentiments from the ephemera pack, but they don’t always fit your project and what you want to say.

Birthday Card Ideas: What To Write

That’s why I use pre-made labels for speed and efficiency.  I used Tim Holtz Sentiment Label stickers for these cards.

Tutorial: Greeting Cards With Fabric

You’ve probably heard of cut inlay, but have you heard of the embossed overlay technique? The die-cutting technique involves cutting a shape from a board and gluing the cutouts back to the negative space to create a unique 3D look. This technique can be done in several ways: partial marquetry, offset marquetry, patterned paper marquetry, layered marquetry, etc.

The amazing Jaycee Gaspar took this technique to the next level! He shared how he was inspired by a cutting technique he first saw in one of Jennifer McGuire’s blog posts. Believe it or not, you only need three craft supplies to recreate this card making idea!

Watch the video below to learn how to perform the embossing technique on a handmade card step by step.

TIP FROM JAYCEE: If you want to capture detail in your folder’s graphics, you’ll want a die with a large surface area. For my card example, I used the Caps Bold Alphabet die set. I recommend a matrix with a large surface. It doesn’t have to be a letter cutting set. Large shaped dies, such as those from the Halftone Circles die set, will look beautiful as a frame for smaller felt dies.

11 Best Greeting Card Ideas For Beginner And Expert Cardmakers

As the name suggests, ink smoothing literally means pressing (“smoothing”) paper/cut paper onto a surface or palette using a wet color medium (watercolor, color inks, alcohol inks, etc.). Our designer Erum took on this task. to the next level by smoothing mascara in all colors of the rainbow! This is one of the easiest card ideas to try with your little ones.

Whether you’re a beginner card maker or an expert, you’ve probably come across the term “masking” when making cards. This oldie but goodie cardmaking technique is perfect for any crafter – regardless of skill level. It doesn’t require a lot of craft supplies, it’s quick and easy, and it’s a great way to stretch your supplies. This is one of the best card ideas, especially if you like single-layer or CAS cards.

Masking is a technique of using “masks” to overlay an image to create the illusion that one image is behind another.

TIP FROM JENNA! When you are ready to remove the masking tape, peel it back and peel it off slowly. Leaves a sharp, fully masked image!

If you think you’ve used all the ink mixing techniques and ideas, think again! Have you ever tried mixing ink on parchment? Yes, vellum! For this amazing card idea, Lydia mixed ink on both sides of the parchment paper to see if it would create a different look.

PRO ADVICE FROM LYDIA! Although you can try to paint both sides, the ink on the back of the parchment is less messy.

Ink mixing is the art of mixing two or more inks on a surface and is often used to create a beautiful and smooth ombre effect. This is a popular technique used in mixed media art, but has become popular in creating greeting cards, scrapbooks and even magazines.

At first, Emboss Resist may seem like a complicated card idea, but it’s completely beginner-friendly! This greeting card production technique combines stamping, hot embossing and painting (with inks or watercolors). This allows you to create exciting and unique backgrounds or focal points in no time. The hot embossed image will “counter” the added inks, providing a sharp, glossy, embossed image that stands out against a beautiful mixed ink or watercolor background.

Diy Birthday Card

If you don’t like mess and cringe at the sight of ink splatter anywhere on your desk, this card making idea may not be for you. Adding stains to your card designs is one of the best card ideas that you can easily try. All it takes is a little practice and supervision. Virginia shared her tips on how not to be intimidated by the art of ink splatter!

You read that right! If you both create and sew cards – this is definitely one of the best card ideas! Norine found a way to combine two of her passions into one extremely creative card design. She used the Pegboard Canvas Cover Die for her project, and because it has fewer and larger holes, it allowed her to use thicker strands of embroidery cotton and complete the project much faster. After embossing the flower image onto her card, she simply cut it out using the Pegboard Canvas Cover Die and started embroidering!

PROFESSIONAL ADVICE FROM NORINA! Instead of decorating it with my favorite enamel dots, I added tiny, sewn-in buttons to the front of the card.

If you’re new to card making, you need to try the reflector technique! As the name suggests, this technique involves illuminating a portion of an embossed image. This is a relatively easy card idea that involves playing with color to highlight part (or parts) of the image. This is the perfect technique if you want the image to be the center of your business card.

While it’s not a new greeting card-making technique, hot foil has taken the papermaking world by storm. With the advent of hot foil plates with coordinated stamps, dies and stencils, foiling became the technique used by most craftsmen. It can add an extra touch to any design in just a few simple steps.

TIP FROM LAURIE! Keeping it white adds a classic, clean and simple look. And so it is
