High Deck Design Ideas – Like decks, stairs come in many shapes and sizes.  There are many options to consider when deciding on a design for something so simple and common looking.

1 – These 4′-wide, enclosed stairs provide an elegant, understated entry point that respects the deck’s clean lines and spacious layout.  The fenders and risers are Deckorators Voyage Sedona with 6-gauge fenders with 4-inch mesh panels.

4 – Our client decided to install a 6′ wide paved staircase.  The top is a Deckorators Voyage Tundra and the risers are done in a dark Deckorators Dark Slate for a bold contrast.

6 – The owners installed a 3′ wide open staircase with redwood treads and a wood balustrade with metal balusters.

7 – We built a 3′ wide, partially enclosed staircase with Golden Gate lights on the riser.  This allows the owners to easily remove the snow, as well as provide illumination at night.

8 – DBS built this 5′ wide staircase with a 90 degree bevel.  The owners decided to use Fiberon Ipe composite for the stairs and Fiberon Tudor Brown for the risers.  We also added handrails and Lake Powell ladders for safety.

15 – The owners decided to build their new deck with 3′ wide outdoor steps.  They added horizontal, fence-style railings to their decks and stairs to add a unique look.

16 – This ladder is 3′ wide, has 90 degree turn closed treads, wood metal supports and handrails, and metal support plates between posts.

17 – This staircase is built with Tigerwood hardwood decking.  It is 3′ wide, has enclosed steps and a 90 degree turn ramp.  On the landing, the stairs and drink cover are Tigerwood, while the risers and balusters are painted white for a sharp contrast.

18 – These are 3′ wide enclosed deck ladders with 90 degree bevels.  We installed Moab style stair lights and wooden railings with metal railings.

25 – The owners wanted to create a welcoming entrance to their home.  We built these 5′ wide, 45 degree turn ramps and indoor composite stairs.

26 – This gorgeous redwood deck features a 12′ wide enclosed step between two separate decks.  The balustrade is constructed of wooden posts with light caps and iron plates between the posts.

27 – This multi-level, custom Redwood deck features a 6′ wide, enclosed staircase between the different levels.  We installed Yellowstone Brick Stair Lights from HighPoint Deck Lighting.

28 – Custom composite deck with 4′ wide open steps.  The balustrade is metal with stainless steel horizontal cables.  We also installed a drainage system under the tongue and groove ceiling deck.

Please note – We exceed the requirements set by RBD when building deck stairs.  Adding poles to the bottom of the ladder provides extra strength and stability.
