)… You will see where you will live for the next few years. Make the small bedroom your study, triple the place where you hang out with friends, and tuck into a mini kitchen (is there such a word?) with a fridge and microwave. Living in one room wasn’t part of the grand scheme.

If you are disappointed with your PG or hostel room and don’t know what to do with it, then you have come to the right place. Let’s try to figure out what all we need to live in a comfortable room and how we can best adapt them to everyone … and make it look good!

30 Minimalist Dorm Room Ideas For A Stylish Space

This is how I plan any room when I start the planning process. I figure out the essentials first.. what I want in the room. Then I figure out the best way to place them. I often hear “function first” and I agree. However, it must follow the ‘second of aesthetics’. This means that I bring beauty to function and not the other way around. Not that I ignore beauty!

It is unlikely that you will have a room big enough to fit a bed and a sofa. So why not use a day bed? It doubles as a sofa when you have friends over or you just want to relax during the day, and a bed at night.

If you already have a single bed, design it as a daybed. Push it against the wall (this will save a lot of space!) Then, instead of the headboard, place pillows along the sofa as you would shape it. You are ready to entertain your friends!

Many daybeds and single beds have storage. But if you don’t have storage space, don’t waste that space. Fill suitcases or trunks with things you use less often and put them under the bed.

From vintage and leather to bright pink and blue, you’ll find them in all styles and colors. Therefore, choose cases that will go with other decorations.

You definitely need a place near the bed where you can keep your phone/book/glass of water. But do you specifically need a bedside table? Next to the bed, place other furniture that can serve as a side table. For example, a study table next to your bed can easily serve both purposes.

Need a small fridge? Keep it next to your bed. A good place to store cold water and your belongings.

Do you also need a microwave? Get a small unit that matches both and doubles as your side table!

Don’t want heavy furniture? Use a metal stand instead. If I use it as a side table, I put the micro on the top shelf and use the middle shelf as a nightstand.

Now wardrobes are a must. There’s nothing like having a real closet in your room. So, if you have one or can afford it, skip this part and go to the next step. But if you don’t have enough closet space to fit or want something temporary, these ideas are a great alternative.

You can start with a simple stick. Either on such a stand, or attached to the wall as a curtain, or suspended from the ceiling with a chain or rope. Make sure it is far enough away from the wall to accommodate the hangers.

Now you have many types of wardrobe organizers online. Choose what suits you best and get everything on a stick too.

If you have some drawers or shelves, you can stack them under the bars to get a complete wardrobe feel.

You can leave it open like this.. like a walk to the dressing room. But if you’re worried about it getting messy and dusty, add a screen in front of it. In fact, if you have any other storage racks (like the one above for the microwave), you can stack them all on the same side and slide the display along the wall. All the clutter disappears behind the curtain and your room looks clean and bright.

Curtains are especially useful if the room is small. In the lower room, there is not enough space between the wardrobe and the bed to open the shutter. So the built-in wardrobes removed the shutters and replaced them with curtains.

Even if you have a regular study table, add a mirror to the upper wall and it will double as a dressing table.

In order for the room to be comfortable, you need to make maximum use of every possible space. If your decor can serve a few purposes, there’s nothing like it. This bookshelf, for example. You don’t realize you’re looking at so much shelf space… you’re just looking at a decorative piece.

Wall-mounted storage shelves of various sizes can be placed in any pattern that suits your space to create a beautiful wall with plenty of storage space.

Wire baskets are very useful. Place some plants and other items of your own and there you have a decorative, useful wall.

Yes, I know, plants serve no purpose other than decoration (as long as you’re providing oxygen!), but plants alone can transform small and dreary spaces into fresh, happy, vibrant spaces.
