How To Come Up With Doodle Ideas – A fun way to improve your creative journaling, writing or doodling! All my best tips and ideas on how to impress your creativity on your friends and children with your amazing “drawings”.

I didn’t know I was weird until a few years ago when I “wrote” in class my way, with lots of pictures, arrows, and funny letters. The man sitting next to me stopped listening to the lecture and started looking at me, looking away from my notes.

He loved how good my notes were and how excited he was to take them!

Fast forward to today and my kids think I’m the best “drawer”! But I have a little secret: the crown you see in the picture below is as good as I imagined. Instead, I’m good at doodling!

Well, when you’re out with your doodles, staring at a blank page can be intimidating, so get inspired!

I do this by having a Pinterest board where I collect different pictures from different people. You can search for doodles, zen tangles, patterns, sprinkles, mixed media, or other fun words to find ideas!

Although there are many lovely ideas on my board, what really stood out to me when I created this doodle example was all the “ribbons” that came out of it.

21+ Imaginative Doodle Art Designs

This is an artist named Juliana Coles and this is a painting she did in her Etsy shop! Now you understand, I don’t claim to be an artist at all, I just take his ideas and base my work on them!

I also really like the circular doodle like “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Hippie” in the bottom right. Sometimes I can relate to that!

For these words… sometimes I have an interesting idea that I want to explain, like this doodle I made to keep a part of my website in mind….

And sometimes I don’t have the inspirational words, so I use quotes like I did in the piece we’re working on today. I took and used a few different fairytale words from Alice in Wonderland!

You can use any word you like. Don’t give up on creating perfect drawings, you just need to have something good to work with!

For doodling I use the Dylusions Traveler’s Notebook by Dyan Reavely. I love this one because it’s a heavy paper suitable for artwork so the pen doesn’t bleed on every page.

And you might want to use wet paper or even copy paper until you get better at it (you already know how you “should” use good paper, but I get the feeling!)

I KNOW! All your drawing classes say that instead of picking up a pencil first, you have to start using your pen or paint, but I don’t really understand that!

I will make my plans and “optimize” them. For example, to bring “Wonderland” into the space I had, I drew and redrew it a few times until I liked it.

One of the things that makes a doodle like this work is breaking your work into categories.

For Alice I made wavy bands all over the page because I know from the notes on my website that I want to master three things, so I made a square, a circle and a cloud area.

I like to start by laying out all the words first. They are the best part in my opinion and if you are busy with most of your departments you may not have room for them!

How To Draw A Doodle

Finally, fill in the other fields with values. I printed out a bunch of different ideas from Pinterest and picked the ones I liked.

A good way to create a cohesive impression is to repeat them over and over again in different sections of your work!

I searched and searched for the pens that I like to use in my drawings. I used to use sharpies, fine pencils and gel pens, but now my favorite is Le Pen.

The reason I like it is because it has a good base, is acid free because it lasts a long time and doesn’t bleed on the back of the paper I use.

How To Doodle For Beginners

When you’re done, you can erase your lines before you’re “official” or ready to add color.

Because the pen is dirty, leaving it there may cause the color to look bad or smudge and burn the page!

No errors at all! You may think you’ve “made a move,” but anyone watching will never know. No mistakes in the art!

Correct mistakes! Suppose you think something is wrong and use this small problem to fix it. For example, I did some work on the line again and it looked strange, so I checked the whole thing again, problem solved!

29 Easy Doodle Pattern Ideas

You have to breastfeed first! We all want perfection when we start doodling, but that’s not the case. When you start, you’ll think, “This is great,” and maybe it will happen. And then you do the next thing and the next one will be even better! It’s time to doodle! I’ve put together some easy bullet journal doodles here that you can use to add a little excitement to your media!

It started with me sitting at home on break and cooing a bit. Of course, being a creative person, I decided to add some fun to my day by doodling.

I have to say, when you sit down to doodle, it’s not easy to decide what to draw. Yes, for some talented and lucky people it’s easy, but for the rest of us we need to think about a topic or something.

Here are some theme ideas you can use when you feel like sitting down and walking away.

How To Draw Anything

An added bonus of this collection is that they can all be great references for future topics in your bullet journal or as a collection of doodles that you can use randomly to better decorate your pages.

Oh, and if you think you can’t doodle – let me tell you, you definitely can! It’s simply an art like the others and all you need is to learn and practice!

Of course, I have put together a beginner’s guide for real beginners. For some free resources for doodling, check out my list of free resources for learning to doodle.

Usually When I Come Up With A General Idea, I Just…

First – a good notebook. You can choose one of my best notebooks for bullet journal writing. At the moment I love Archer and Olive’s notebooks and use their B5 notebooks for all my creations.

(pss if you want to get something from Archer and Olive make sure you use code MASHA10 to get 10% off)

Second – a good black pen. I usually use fineliners like Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens – they are my favorite. Lately I’ve also become interested in doodling with Fude pens, particularly the hard tip Tombow Fude.

Finally color! Here I usually use the Zebra Mildliners because I like the muted sound. But since it’s quarantine and I need some bright, happy colors, I chose my favorite Tombow product – the TwinTone brand double brush pen.
