In other words, what should go on the wall? Hang art above it? What is a mirror? Add framed photos to any side? Leaving it blank and open? There are so many options, which is good news(!), but sometimes having too many options can get a little overwhelming and leave you feeling uncertain.
Fear not, my friends. Today I’ll take you through some of my favorite options for filling the walls around your bed that I find work well in a particular space. I have collected some great examples from around the web to show some of the misconceptions. I made sure to include a few different styles too – my hope is that there’s a little something for everyone in this post and you’ll leave with the confidence to get out there and fill those empty walls in your bedrooms!

10 Ways To Place Your Bed In Front Of A Window
First, you need to think about the big picture of what’s going on in your room. Take a minute to write down the answers to the questions below to help guide your thought process on the options you have:
Now that you have those things in mind, let’s get into some possibilities. Of course, once you’ve decided on your location now, not all of these ideas will work, but that’s the point, right? We need to narrow things down so you can make a decision and act on it. 🙂 If you have a low ceiling and a tall headboard, hanging a large piece of art may not be appropriate, but hanging art on one side is appropriate. !
One of the simplest solutions that works in many rooms is to hang art or photographs above the bed. More often than not, the beds are placed against a wall, with a large, empty space above it that begs for something to hang on it. You can hang a single, large piece or a collection of smaller pieces. For a classic look, go symmetrical, or if you’re feeling a bit edgy and adventurous, mix sizes and placements.
When going with the mirror over the bed option, I usually like to choose a shape that matches the shape of the bed. For example, I can use a round mirror or a bed with straight lines and hard corners.

Symmetry can be your friend when designing a room, and this is especially true when hanging art or pictures above your bedside tables. The pieces don’t have to be identical (actually, I wish they weren’t!), but I like to choose ones with the same finish to keep them connected. You can go with one piece on each side or try a “stacked” look – two pieces, one on top of the other.
Mirrors have the ability to open up a room and act as windows, so if you have a small space or a long windowless wall, go with a rectangle, circle or oval shape if you have more. Introduce mirrors in interesting shapes or colors that match other patterns and colors that occur in the rest of the room, or if you want to add some visual interest. One of the things I love about using mirrors on nightstands is the ability to go with something “non-functional” because it’s not used the way you would use a bathroom mirror or a full mirror.
Sometimes, less is more. Don’t feel like you have to get hung up on anything just because it feels like you should. Maybe you’re in the minority and you just love it, maybe you have a big niche and you don’t want (or need!) to introduce anything that prevents you from walking away from it. Or if there’s an architecture you want to emphasize, the only caveat I have here is to challenge you to see if it’s because you have a decorative commitment or if you really like how it works. 😉
That being said, there are plenty of good examples of bedrooms with nothing on the walls above or around the bed. The ones here show just how good it is!
