Slide Master is the ultimate tool for prototyping. You can find it by clicking View on the PowerPoint menu (and then clicking Slide Master).
In the left window, you will find some slides that don’t have designs yet. You’ll also see a slide at the top that’s slightly larger and connected to the other slides with dashed lines. This is your Slide Master, your “master slide.” Anything you change there will directly affect all the other slides. You can try this by setting a different background color for the Slide Master. The colors of the other slides will change immediately.
We use the master slide to front all our important elements. Once we like the way it looks, we can go ahead and adjust each slide template individually. List of things you can/should change:
Powerpoint Themes To Create Structured Presentations
Themes in PowerPoint are similar to templates but they are not the same. A theme in PowerPoint is a predetermined selection of colors, fonts, effects, and backgrounds. So, if you’re creating a template for your company, we recommend adding a custom theme that includes your company’s brand colors and fonts. Now, if you want to learn more about designing themes in PowerPoint and how to create them, you can read about it in more detail in our blog post called Designing themes.
A very important point in a PowerPoint presentation is choosing the right font because it must be easy to read but at the same time not boring. In our blog post on the best fonts for your presentations, we’ve picked some good fonts for you to use.
A great effect for templates is to crop images into custom shapes so they display as boring rectangles. To achieve this, first add an image placeholder to the slide master (go to Add placeholder and click Image).
Then you need to add the shape you want on top of the image. You can add your own SVG image or use one of the default PowerPoint shapes. Then you need to select both (image placeholder and shape) and click Convert to shape under Graphic Format. Now, in the Format Shapes tab, click “Merge Shapes” and then select “Intersection.” Now your image will automatically crop to your shape. For more information and step-by-step instructions, see our blog post Crop and paste images into shapes.

If you want to give each slide a specific name (this name will be displayed in the layout chooser), you can easily rename it in the slide master. To do this, right-click the slide and select Rename Layout. You can then rename the PowerPoint slide.
Once you’ve completed your master slide, you can go ahead and adjust your other slide layouts. You may notice that some already look perfect; you can leave them as they are. For those who don’t want this, or if you want to have different slide designs in your template, here are some helpful tips on what you can change:
TIP: You may need a different predefined layout (e.g. for overview slides, for “Contact Us” slides, …) You can also easily Easily create a template for this layout by right-clicking on the gray box on the left where all the layouts are located. then click Add Layout. You can right click on this new layout, go to Rename Layout and give it a meaningful name. You can treat this layout like any other layout and easily adapt it to suit your needs.
Once you’re satisfied with the look of all your layouts, you can save the template by clicking File then Save As. Now you can choose any folder or use the folder provided by PowerPoint and save it as a PowerPoint template (*.potx). Close and reopen PowerPoint, click New in the orange sidebar on the left, then switch from Office to Personal or Private. Your template will now show up here. Click on it and you can create a new presentation with predefined layouts.

You can also set your template as the default option. To do this, you need to click on the pin at the bottom right of the template and pin it to your list.
If for some reason your template isn’t showing up in the start menu OR you’ve created a presentation that doesn’t have a template that will receive templates, go to Design at the top of the open presentation, click the small arrow next to designs, then select Search for Designs. There, click on the template you created (in the folder you saved it in) and open it. The presentation will now take over your template design.
