A few months ago I did a full color t-shirt iron-on tutorial that was very popular, but the printing and then cutting can be a little tricky for beginners. So I want to take it back a bit and make a super easy tutorial on how to make a t-shirt using Cricutwith you!
How To Make A Custom T-shirt With The Cricut Explore Air 2 — Liz On Call
For this project we will be working with metal on vinyl, also known as heat transfer vinyl or HTV. Iron on vinyl is a special type of vinyl that has a heat-sensitive adhesive that bonds to fabric and other surfaces when pressed using a heat source such as an iron or EasyPress. In this video I show you how to use ALL of them.
Now the great thing about the Cricut is that you can cut a design or name out of vinyl – on vinyl of different colors, patterns and textures to create a unique personal design. And if you do it right, you can wash a shirt up to 50 times before it starts to have problems. In this video, I’ll show you the RIGHT way to do it to get great results the first time!
Because the thing is, there are a lot of things that can go wrong when you first make a shirt. You have to remember to flip or FLIP the pattern, lay the vinyl right side up on the cutting mat, sew the right side of the pattern, preheat your shirt, set the temperature, press long enough and remove. provider letter on time. How to Create a Metal HTV Design for a T-Shirt Using the Cricut Step 1: Find or create your t-shirt design
Go to the Cricut Design Space, click New Project, then click Templates in the upper left corner. Select “Classic T-Shirt” and choose a style, size and color. The template will help you resize your design to look good on your t-shirt.

You can find many metal t-shirt designs on the Cricut Design Space. Click on an image to browse the image library for ideas. If you’re a beginner, I recommend sticking to simple, monochromatic designs that don’t have many small details.
If you want to use my free Craft Heart design that I used in this tutorial (Design #151), you can download the free SVG cut files from my free resource library. Available as PDF (hand cut) and SVG/DXF (machine cut). If you will be cutting it on your cutting machine, load the file into your design software. You can resize the image to fit the t-shirt using the resize handle in the lower right corner – just click and drag.

When you’re ready, click the green button in the upper right corner. Then you need to turn on MIRROR (green) – all metal structures must be mirrored before cutting!
It is very important to place the metallic vinyl SHINY SIDE DOWN on the cutting mat. Learn how to tell which side to cut metal on vinyl in my tutorial here!
Now it’s time to weed out our metal structure. So weeding means removing any vinyl that we don’t want to transfer to our project when we iron it or use a heat press. This means we will remove all the extra bars.
To start, you want to start peeling the vinyl away from the edge. Unfortunately, vinyl never wants to come off that easily. So I make a little scratch in the corner with my craft knife. You don’t want to cut all the way through. Just cut through the metal on the vinyl layer on the matte side (cut side). And then it’s easy to get rid of once you make the cut, I understand. So I turned a corner here:

And now that little thing makes it easier for me to get my nail under the vinyl trim. If you have any problem, you can remove it like this using the weed remover tool. Once you set it up, you just keep removing it from the carrier sheet. And your design will sit on the backing paper and the part you don’t want will peel off, like this.
Now, if you look at your metalwork, you’ll see that not all of it has been removed, right? So we have the heart and wings section and also the letters.
Tip: Always keep your small scraps in a corner, away from your work area, so they don’t get mixed up with other things.
Be patient and if you need to, you can use tweezers to remove small parts without damaging the letter. Here we have woven our entire structure.

If you’re using an iron, you’ll want to heat the iron to the cotton or setting appropriate for your material.
Place your design on the shirt. For this project, we want to place it in the middle. To find the center of the shirt, fold it in half by bringing your hands together. Using the EasyPress or your iron, lightly crease the crease. Now when you unbutton your shirt, you know exactly where the center is because there is a fold. Just put in the center of the heart and fold. I also choose to keep the pattern on the top half of the shirt.
If your transfer paper sticks to the iron, you can cover your design with parchment paper to protect the surface of the iron.
How To Make Shirts With Cricut Iron-on Vinyl
For this project, my pattern was larger than my EasyPress. So I had to move my EasyPress to turn on the two part design.
According to the EasyPress Heat Guide, I had to turn the shirt over and press on the back.
Wait and allow the design to cool to a warm temperature. Then drag the carrier sheet from your design.

How To Make A T-shirt With A Cricut
To learn how to care for your new shirt, wait 24 hours after applying the vinyl before washing it. Turn the shirt inside out before washing without bleach. This design should be washed at least 50 times.
Q: Why does my vinyl design peel off the shirt when I try to peel off the backing paper?
Answer: This can happen for many different reasons. First, it might be too early to remove it and you’ll need to let the design settle a bit and then try again. If it still doesn’t work, heat the design a little more. These are usually two reasons why it doesn’t work.

How Do I Measure My Shirt For The Template In Design Space?
A: From my tests, the only time I can get threads
