Interesting and strange. pleasure. Beautiful. These are just some of the words I could use to describe the pages in the revised book journal.
Ideas Book
If you want to dazzle everyone with your next quirky book, then I hope the following ideas and examples of changing pages will help you do just that.
Ideas To Spruce Up A Bookshelf With More Than Just Books
The best part? Creating and designing these page ideas is easier and faster than you think.

One of the best things about converted book journals is that you can have fun making collages.
After all, you probably want to cover as many original book pages as possible, but just matching each page with numbers and other sheets can be a bit boring.
Altered Book Pages: 11 Easy & Beautiful Page Ideas To Inspire You!
For my current ever-changing book journal, I decided to highlight each season (spring, summer, fall, and winter) with simple collage pages that also have plenty of space for writing.
For a simple spin on the collage page idea mentioned above, you can keep some of the original book pages and incorporate them into your collage.
One way I like to do this with my revised books is to roughly tear some pretty paper in half by hand and then glue the two pieces to my pages, leaving some of the original pages showing in the middle .

If you’re working on a nature or plant topic, another fun page for revamping your books involves creating folder pockets – modeled after a scientist’s office or lab or something.
First, you can decorate it to look like a folder by gluing craft paper and labels to one side pocket. You can even stack two pockets on top of each other to look like a stack of folders, as in the example above.
Alternatively, you can make your own folder pockets using scrapbook paper or thick book pages and glue or staple them to your modified book journal.
By revising a book journal (or any type of scrap journal, really), you have tons of opportunities to be creative and creative on the page.

This involves cutting out a rectangle or other shape from the page, gluing what you want to see through the “window” behind it, and then gluing the page to the page below it so that the back of the window is hidden.
You can get super creative with this type of page. Likewise, when things are kept simple, they look just as much fun.
For my “Through the Seasons” changing book journal, I decided to create a window page for each season so that there is some continuity throughout the journal.
This involves folding one corner of the page and gluing it to the underside of the page to strengthen it. Then glue the sides and bottom together to create a large pocket.
Strange Ideas & Impure Thoughts Journal- Medium
You can even add extra pockets or reverse writing patches at the bottom of the page – like I did with one of my winter journal pages.
Instead of folding the corners like the triangle pocket pages mentioned above, fold and glue the pages lengthwise to create a large side pocket.
You can even combine some of the other ideas mentioned in this blog post with the side pockets, such as collaging the rest of the page or adding a tear-off feature, extra pockets, etc.

Who doesn’t love interactive pages in journals and revised books? They’re fun to make and interact with, and they don’t need to be overly complicated at all.
You can use an envelope to create a reversible pocket. This involves opening the sides or top of the envelope to create a pocket, then simply gluing the envelope flap between the two pages.
Alternatively, you can create a hinge for whatever you want to flip over, then glue the hinge like you would an envelope flap.
You have a lot of freedom to create interesting posts in your modified book journal, so have fun with them.

Beautiful bellyband with fold-out writing point is a great addition to your revision book journal
Sometimes, revised book journals can feel a little “bland” compared to other junk journals, since people often stay away from embarrassing periods.
While you have to be wary of the sheer volume of content in your book journal, that doesn’t mean you can’t add some fun timing here and there throughout.
One idea is to attach a bellyband to one of the pages, which not only gives you extra space for your keepsake but also adds a three-dimensional element to your page.
Upcycling Ideas For Old Books And Book Crafts
I may sound like a broken record talking about all the fun and creative things you can do with turning the pages of a book, but it’s true!
Another thing I love the most is that when you cut a page in half to make two smaller pages, it almost feels like they are wiggling when you turn the pages.
When I did this on the spring pages of the Seasons of Change magazine, I glued two pages together and then cut them out so they would feel sturdier.
If you’re like me and love texture in your journals, why not add some to your modified book journal?
Book Decoration Ideas: (gorgeous)!
One of the easiest ways to add texture is with fabric flip-flops, which can be used both as decoration and as a way to hide a secret pocket or writing spot.
All you need is some pretty fabric and some fabric glue to adhere the top of the fabric to the journal pages. You can then lift the canvas when you need to write.
Alternatively, you can hide a pocket underneath the fabric, like I did in my “Four Seasons” journal. I used parchment paper to make my pocket so that it would be nicely camouflaged by the nice straight fabric I used for the wrong side of the fabric.
As long as you keep an eye on how big your revised book journal is, there’s no reason why you can’t add extra pockets and camouflage points to some pages.
Gift Ideas For Book Lovers
For example, why not use some sturdy die-cuts as little dots that double as page decoration? Or you could even make a little bird’s nest and use it as an attraction!
This is exactly what I did in my Four Seasons journal and I just love the look of this little nest.
If you’re looking for more book page ideas, you might also get some ideas and inspiration from the first Changed Book Journal I made for the Margaret Miller Weekly Collage Challenge.
I’ve only finished a few pages on this, so it currently sits in my unfinished pile. Still, it’s always fun to look back at our previous work—finished or not.

Anyway, my plan for the challenge is simple. I plan to create a scrapbook for myself where I can experiment with new techniques, designs, colors, and materials for my junk journaling.
Now, I could use any book to meet Margaret’s challenge. I can use an old notebook or even a journal I made specially.
Instead, I chose to take the Qishu route, which was also a challenge for me and a new technology to try.
Then I felt the collage needed more, so I also used mushrooms from the book, butterflies from the number set and labels from the same set on which I would write a quote or a short text.
The Collage Ideas Book
I explain in my process video that these guidelines seem to fit very well with the collage formula proposed by Natasha of Treasure House Books. I followed her advice and I think the page turned out great!
I hope these revised pages give you some ideas and inspiration for revamping your book journal. But most of all, I also want you to be excited about making journals and decorating pages. After all, it’s so much fun! Enjoy every minute…
