Ideas For Decorating Living Room On Budget – Followed by Joanna Gaines and now my new obsession Studio McGee I had Sarah Richardson. She inspired me to design. Some of her designs were a bit bold for me, but others I absolutely loved. I bought her books, bought several of her pillows, made other pillows with her fabric, and watched every episode of her I could find online and on HGTV.  Does all this qualify me as a crazy stalker? No?  Okay, okay.

It is simple, elegant and oh so beautiful. I knew I wanted to recreate it as well as possible and as economically as possible. I’m looking for Ninja Deals. I had an empty room in my house that was being used as a playroom until we finished the basement. I just sat there and waited for my Sarah to rest and a reasonable price for a husband. This room was supposed to be mine… no kids allowed and it was my “office” (even though I wasn’t working). But everyone needs a nice office or a nice room in their life right?

Unfortunately, I only have one good picture of this room in our house, so yes, you’re looking at the same picture as above.

Let’s talk about my favorite thing in this room… the mirror. I found it at Hobby Lobby and they also had it the last time I was there. I made sure to buy it when HL had a 50% off mirror sale. I will also be honest and say that being a mother is just as difficult. No sugar coating. I had to ask a store clerk to help me put it in my van and a complete stranger to help me carry it into my house. At that time we were finishing the screen in the driveway of our house and a sweet worker helped me. Yes, the lengths I went to for this mirror. But it’s still one of my favorite pieces, so it’s worth it.

My sofa came from my favorite store of all time…World Market. It looks like they are slowly rolling out this couch (b00). If you have World Market I would check it out as it is heavily discounted right now. Don’t worry though, Pier 1 and Wayfair have the same coach. And if you like the color, World Market has a similar color sofa. Amazon also has some beautiful sofas.

My coffee table was an Amazon find. I have had it for years and it has held up very well so far. I don’t recommend having your kids dance on it, but for a room that doesn’t draw too much attention, it’s perfect and just what I was looking for.

I got my curtains from Target and added navy blue trim to make them pop up a bit. I did something similar with my IKEA curtains in the new house. This is an easy way to add interest to a room and only costs a few dollars.

I found my lamp at a thrift store and replaced the shade with a new modern one. If you can’t find one at a thrift store like mine, this one from Pier 1 is great and a great price.

I received my faux fur rug on Tuesday morning, but you can find similar ones on Amazon or IKEA. I actually intended to cover it with jute or a striped rug, but I didn’t get around to it until we moved. I am eyeing this beauty for a new home. And if there’s one thing in my house that my husband hates, it’s my faux fur rug. He still comments on it.

And I can’t forget my accent wall. I starched the fabric on this wall first. This was not my original idea. I saw this on one of my favorite blogs at the time. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. It was actually the brink of disaster. But I learned a lot from this experience… I learned that I won’t be putting starched fabric on my walls again anytime soon. That’s how the wallpaper went up. I love the wallpaper and plan to have it in the new house. The wallpapers I used have been discontinued, but now there are tons of options. I saw this wallpaper at Anthropologie and have a good feeling it will show up in the new home somehow. And being the bargain hunting ninja that I am, I found the same wallpaper on Amazon.

There were many different pillows on my bed in that room. You can find my Navy Polka Dot Pillow on Amazon. For a long time, these pillows lived on the sofa. Always check the pillow section in Hobby Lobby…behind the drapery and fabric section. They have a ton of cheap pillows that are sometimes half price. My white jute-trimmed pillow came from there and cost about $4.

And after installing all the floors on the first floor and then selling your house after 4 months it makes sense, that’s what we did. Our Pergo floors are from Nashville Oak and in the 4 months I’ve had them, I absolutely love them. We bought them from Lowes and had them installed by Lowes and I was very happy with the installation.

There was nothing special about this place when we walked in. It was a small square box without any character. Pluses was a large window that let in a lot of light and a wooden floor.

Old baseboard heaters and chandeliers that bumped into each other every time we passed the room.

This 10×10 room is next to our small entrance at the front of the house. We are sure that the previous and only owners used this space as a dining room. We don’t need another dining room, so it will serve as a sitting/living area for now.

The first project I undertook in this room was to get rid of the chandelier and both baseboard heaters. We don’t need the heater, it’s just ugly, so I removed them and patched all the holes and damaged walls.

I also removed the old thermostat and filled that hole and all the other holes and nails.

Next was to putty all the trim and windows (problems with the old house) and then prime the trim.

At this point in the project, I was pretty much ready to paint the walls. First though I applied a few coats of bright white paint to the ceiling. What a difference!

The trim also has two coats of the same color I used on the rest of the house, mixed with Behr Polar Bear BM Advance.

Finally, it’s time to paint the walls. I have used this house to experiment with different shades, i.e. soft white colors with a matte sheen. The walls in this house have a lot of imperfections, so I was hoping a matte finish would minimize them.

The paint color I chose for this room was BM White Dove Matte. I’ve used White Dove in the past for finishes and I’ve always liked it, so I used it again.

I couldn’t believe how much this soft white lit up the room. It was painted a medium grey, which was fine. However, the soft white really made a huge difference.

I tried to add a little character to every room I renovated in this simple 1965 ranch, and do it on a budget. The entrance got new doors and cheerful wallpaper. There is a bead board in the breakfast nook.

In this room they were going to make stucco or rather a picture frame. This was my first time doing a project like this, but it was really easy to do. The hardest part of the whole project turned out to be the math calculations for placing the boxes.

First I was going to do the whole room, then it was 2 walls.
