20 Dining Room Wall Decor Ideas From Designers
Now that we’ve covered the basics and what I try to keep in mind when planning wall decor, let’s get down to 10 different ways to decorate a large wall!
If you’re trying not to spend a lot of money on a large piece, you can create wall art that can serve as a large piece for a fraction of the cost of a gallery wall hanging. There are many ways and options to do this
. You can choose collected, varied layers or go the more uniform route. In the breakfast area, I used the same Ikea frames to display iPhone photos from some of our travels.

Each photo is a separate situation and is a vantage point/landscape taken by me on my phone. Memorable and unique, and although it holds the memories of 12 different journeys, it works as a single monochromatic piece of art. Remember that it also takes up a lot of that wall 😉 when creating the photos you need.
Another simple “gallery” of sorts that doubles as a feature is the screen baskets on our front porch wall. They are all the same but three different sizes. I quickly placed them in the organic form and said, “Okay!”
The sun gallery wall in our front room certainly doesn’t match the rest of our house these days and is due for a major overhaul soon. But this is a good example of using separate parts and sticking to them when mixing metals.
I have an art piece in my office that I call a “gallery wall” – I hang a large piece along with three identical foil prints that I just rolled into a big square when I hung it. Although the parts are different, they share the same structure.

There are some beautiful galleries that combine black and white with color photos, the same frames and mats in different sizes, and even different frames, media, etc. . If you’re bold and want to make an artistic statement, mix it up.
Sometimes it’s just not the kind of art that’s needed (or can be used). This place was big and enclosed and although I wanted a console table, this is it
Some way. I was still able to find a piece on the narrow side and create the perfect “moment” in the living room. Not enough space for a console table? You can do the same with a bench or stool set!

. I don’t want the piece to look like I hung it on the wall; I want it to be part of the wall – does that even make sense?! Haha, it’s a 48″ x 48″ woodcut…

This living room wall art measures 40″ x 54″, and while it looks huge on its own, it actually has a size that’s even bigger!
I like to collect works as a set, especially if I just want to hang them on the wall. It will also save you some $$$ because two small framed pieces usually cost less
Glad the wall basket I was hoping for never arrived ;). – A complete happy coincidence. I have many questions about this; The original Etsy shop that printed these songs closed shortly after opening, but you can find a similar version here. I chose 16″ x 20″ frames, but that’s actually the size of the painting on the rug. Actual frame size is 23″x28″.

I also enjoy researching art series and choosing two favorites to arrange together in a set. This was the Lily Pad artwork from ZGallerie about six years ago. Here is a professional guide – I
Search minted for art. Although it is not easy to “mark” the set, they usually number their prints in the series with Roman numerals. In the search bar I will look for “II” which refers to “2”. When the results come back, I look for “art” in the filters, so it only gives me art (instead of postcards, stationery, etc.). Most of what filters down from there is the second part of the art series. If you find a piece you like, enter the artist’s name and you’ll be able to browse their other works. In nine cases out of ten, if they are marked with the letter II in some way, there is also an I (sometimes III and IV).
A more attractive (but definitely expressive!) way to “decorate” large walls is to create your own wall art. Adding trim and molding is something we’ve done to customize a lot of rooms in our home, and while you can add art on top, they can be done completely without additional decorations. In Eliza’s nursery we put five individual boxes with picture frames, but in our bedroom we added two rows of boxes around the entire room. We even added a trim detail around the vaulted ceiling. I had a contractor do all the work, but using shoe molding and gluing simple boxes directly to drywall and sealing them with paint kept costs down on projects that can add up quickly.

6 Living Room Wall Decor Ideas
I have a large wall in the living room where the cutout in the kitchen looks very bare. I added a faux half column to match the columns on the other side of the living room….

And added this detail that wraps around the corner under the bar to match the new column. Functionally, it also helps clean up scuff marks where feet hit the wall; Before, flat paint would look bad. The semi-gloss finish of the wall parts is very nice!
While I’ve stuck to molding picture frames in my rooms, there are plenty of beautiful options if you’re also looking for board and wainscoting or horizontal/vertical wainscoting.
How To Un-blank A Blank Wall?
Earlier this year, I ventured into the world of wallpaper and…I was completely hooked. I started with our little powder room, where it’s easy to go bolder and bolder, and I think the risk was totally worth it. I also stuck with wallpapering only the top 1/3, while I went with molding on the bottom 2/3. I don’t have any extra artwork and am now trying to figure out where I can wallpaper it!
If you don’t want to make the commitment, there are also many beautiful peel and stick options that are very easy to apply. A few years ago I used faux brick in our bathroom!
I mentioned at the beginning that my simplest and first inclination is to expand the clear image. As with great art, the size you choose makes a big difference. This image is 48 inches but works at wall scale.

In contrast, a few updates ago in my breakfast room, I had this round mirror that was too small to see behind.
