Interior Design Ideas Drawing
There is no right or wrong, only initial thoughts and concepts. It’s time to play! The detailing, budgeting and finer parts of the process are yet to come. I really like being free and open to all possibilities during the initial conceptual design phase!

Sketches are an important part of the design and development process. Sketches help convey ideas, show functionality, visualize final space, show overall floor plan and perspective.
Concept design is free, fluid and fun! Design is like a honeymoon period. Play with different layouts, possibilities and ideas. At this stage, it is important not to think too much and go with the flow!
And always add color! It adds life and energy to floor plans, elevations and perspective drawings. Check out our exclusive color packs here.
It is important to develop some conceptual ideas before moving on to the design development phase. I find floor and isometric drawings to be a useful way to look at all the materials and connections.
5 Practical Sketching Tips For Interior Design Beginners
Axonometric projection is a type of orthographic projection in which a three-dimensional object is shown at an oblique angle so that more than one side of the object is visible. Orthographic projection usually shows one face of the object parallel to the surface of the page, while axonometric drawing is rotated so that the plane of the object is NOT parallel to the page. Axonometric means “to measure along the axes”; The axes of the object are drawn at the agreed scale.
Isometric projection is a type of axonometric projection where the same scale is used for each axis and is therefore the most common type of drawing. In dimetric projection, only two axes use the same scale, while the third (usually the vertical axis) is defined separately.
In the final stage of design project development, schematic plans and elevations are revised, revised and expanded to include all necessary details and specifications for construction. The components of the project are thought out to the smallest detail. These include: Interior and exterior building materials and finishes. Therefore, it is important to start thinking about all the components and how they will fit together as early as possible.
I love creating cartoons to plan a presentation and project. It helps to break a complex project into many smaller parts. Watch our architecture cartoon here.

Free concept planning is a great way to first understand the space and your limitations. Now it’s time to explore different approaches.
Once you’ve determined your preferred planning approach, it’s fun to start visualizing it in 3D. Perspective sketches are usually created for the final part of the conceptual process. Many designers like to create these to create a final design proposal. But I find perspective sketches helpful throughout the design process, especially in the early stages!
I like to use them as a learning tool to explore different possibilities and combinations to ensure the final build is as seamless as possible.
Below are a variety of concept plans, perspective sketches and visuals that showcase different styles and approaches, from simple to complex.

Spatial planning, as it is known in the industry, has to be one of my favorite processes when redesigning a space. After all, this stage comes after evaluating and thoroughly analyzing the brief. (Purpose of the room, who will use it and how). It’s all about brainstorming and finding the best solution to make the most of the space and I love it!
It’s worth your time for this vital planning step, and the best part is you don’t need an expensive computer to do it either. It’s also great if you’re not particularly computer savvy.
Planning the placement of your furniture from the beginning allows you to plan other design elements such as lighting, furniture, placement of artwork, and more. As they say, to be forewarned is to be armed.

Ultimately, this will save you time, money and minimize your stress levels. Whether or not you’re going to completely revamp the design, make sure your choice of existing or proposed furniture is the best fit.
Every room needs a focal point. When planning the layout of the room, you can determine where you want to create a key focal point. There is nothing worse than a poorly planned room where the eye is allowed to wander freely and has nowhere to stop.
Tip: Planning the placement of your furniture will also help you determine where you will need electricity. Again, knowing where you’ll need these outlets and light fixtures can save you a lot of money. Your electrician/builder will appreciate it too!
Yes, it’s obvious, but some people like to guess how big their room really is. It is absolutely important that you take accurate measurements of the room. From the obvious like width and length to built-in devices. Don’t forget to measure the size of your windows and doors, including the direction the door opens; This will show you where you’re losing space. Be sure to specify the altitude (altitude). Take note of any remaining wall fixtures, such as wall lamps. This should be taken into account when planning the room. When planning your furniture, you don’t want to find that the bookcase is too tall and blocks the wall light!

Drawing a floor plan will give you a better understanding of the basic shape of the room and what you need to pay attention to. For example, spacing between windows and window size for elevation drawings.
Draw a rough plan of the floor with all its dimensions, including drawing the window area and the height of the radiator.
Then redraw to scale. A rule of thumb is essential if you want to make sure your room layout will work. (Designers often use a 1:50 or 1:20 scale. For example, if a drawing has a scale of “1:10”, the “real” size of anything drawn at a scale of “1” will be “10”. In the real world, 150 mm in the drawing’ ) will be 1500 mm in the room).
If you don’t have a scale ruler, use graph paper and adjust the scale as shown below.

Floor plan drawn to scale with dimensions. Be sure to record each measurement in your drawing to use as a visual guide for adding your furniture plan.
Once you draw your floor plan to scale, you will never want to draw it again. There are several ways to overcome this situation…
1. After placing a piece of tracing paper on top of the main floor plan, draw each layout on a new sheet of tracing paper.
2. If you have a printer with a duplicating function, copy your master floor plan several times. (This is my preferred method over tracing because the layouts are clearer and you have a hard copy of each layout). You can use it to draw directly on each copy to create a different layout.
Drawing Room Designs
At first, you can draw a few plans to get an idea of how the space will be used. I really love this part.
TIP: You should make sure that you allocate space for open furniture such as wardrobes, sideboards and cupboards.
3. Another method is to draw and cut the furniture pieces you will use. If you loved Peter Blue as a kid, you’ll love this method, although it doesn’t require gluing or gluing.
This may seem like a big task, but honestly, once you draw and cut them, that’s it. If you choose this method, we recommend taking photos of each layout as a reference for comparison.
