Interior Design Ideas For Small Condo – Looking for interior design ideas for your small home? Check out this development project that I worked on over the last year, and that we were able to shoot last month.

My main young client lives with her husband and two children in a small two-bedroom apartment. She was looking to remodel her living room, kitchen, dining area and shared bathroom, so they took advantage of my Remodel design.

As you will see in the pictures below, the common areas of the apartment were in need of an upgrade.

In the living room, the brown striped wallpaper they used for the relief wall looked too light.

Even my client’s husband initially thought that opening the shelf would be enough. But after living in their apartment room for a few years, they quickly realized that the open shelf needed regular maintenance; otherwise, it would just end up being disgusting.

They also had a brown reclining sofa that my client wanted changed. He was looking for a sofa that would suit the whole family, but still look dull and timeless enough to stand up to ever-changing interior design trends.

The living room originally also had a children’s table where the children could play or study, but they noticed that they often pushed the table away in order to have a place to hang out.

The lack of waterproofing by the apartment builder led to a damaged wall in the living room, which was only covered with wall-to-wall curtains (bought from a thrift store). While the contractor had fixed the problem of water seeping into the wall, I told the customer that they should check that the inside of the wall is not filled with mold. This would have been a health concern for them.

Also note that the manufacturer of their A/C unit did not even bother to hide the dams inside the walls. They had thought that they could not do this because the walls of the house were made of thick concrete.

The cabinets in the kitchen really looked like they were standing in the 00s. My client also wanted to clear more of the counter space and wanted specific cabinet modules to house his appliances.

The floor tiles had also not been changed in a while. It didn’t help that his grout made the floor dirty no matter how many times it was scrubbed and mopped.

Small Living Room Ideas To Copy For Rooms Of Any Size

My client was looking to replace the fridge with a large double door unit. However, she felt that this corner was too deep and they couldn’t really organize their pantry items on the top shelf.

They had set up this restaurant counter to “save space”. But the size was not suitable for the place. It was also often full of kitchen utensils and utensils – not a good look for a dining table.

My client knew she needed more kitchen space and this served that purpose. Somehow, though, she wanted a separate dining area so she wouldn’t have to crowd the counter with her cooking supplies. But he wasn’t sure if the kitchen counter and dining table would fit in the space.

When you enter their apartment, the first thing that greets you is this empty but unused corner.

The small apartment was filled with food items, toys, shoe boxes—basically an unpleasant mix of things you’d normally find in a small apartment.

This entryway wall was also uninspired, despite their beautiful wedding and family photos displayed on the wall. Again, the open shelf console only added to the rugged look.

My clients were a fashionable couple, but the interior of their homes didn’t really reflect their style and personality. Not even their friend’s bathroom.

The bathroom had no cabinets or storage space, so everything was out. The tiles – like in the kitchen – were the original flat finish and completely uninspired.

Before I go to show you the “after” photos, here’s a quick look at the soundboard and palette I prepared for my clients.

Considering the lifestyle of my clients and even their style and fashion sense, I wanted to give them a sophisticated looking interior of the apartments. But because they had two small children, I didn’t want to make it too difficult for them to worry about breaking things.

I knew I wanted to keep their house looking “lovely and lived in” enough that it didn’t feel like they were living in a glass house. It needed more urban elements to match its beauty.

My client also specified white brick walls, and while we looked at carpet options to keep the budget down, he finally decided to go for the real thing—even if it meant a longer renovation.

The colors I chose were on the cooler-leaning side. The interior of their apartment was getting warm and brown, and I wanted to get away from all this warmth.

I incorporated warm tones through the wood finish and black and bronze metallic accents. As for the accent colors, my client will only use white (Boysen’s Space Encounters).

Talk about an introduction that tells a story right away! Instead of returning the black and white photos that lined this wall, I told my clients to choose color family photos to add interest. I also felt that it showed a lot of their family life and personality—with lots of fun and color!

My client bought the frames and her husband installed them. Let’s just say it’s a homework, he won’t repeat it anytime soon.

We kept the schedule as we did not run the electricity and TV. But we removed the brown striped wallpaper and installed white brick from EZ Rocks. A brick wall adds just the right amount of texture and visual interest to a space without making the walls stand out, like dark wallpaper.

I added some lighting fixtures as the one old light didn’t provide enough light for the unit at night. My client decided not to install a drop ceiling to cover the wire, but we worked around it by wet staining, stucco the ceiling finish and covering the wire with PVC. It’s not ideal, but in the interest of budget, or if your building management does not allow ceiling work, this is the perfect alternative.

I asked my curtain designer to replace the old curtains with pleated curtains on the rail. This made it easier for my clients to open and close the curtains during the day, as the light can be blinding during the day.

To fix the damaged wall and the exposed air conditioner duct, I had my contractor build a new wall to cover it. We only sacrificed a few inches of space for it, but it was worth it.

The media cabinet was custom made by Raw.Tura, while the (very expensive!) rug is an Ikea available from Furniture Source.

We had wall cabinets made by my trusted general contractor—a simple design with open doors. I was still going to open the shelf because I knew my client had decor and her things could be used for decorating. But giving her shelves that could be closed allowed them to be less concerned about displays and decorations.

They had a collection of cushion covers in black, white and grey. Despite the different designs, they all work well together because of their unified palette.

My client’s brother-in-law is an art curator (check out the online art gallery) and referred him to the artist Jay Ragma, who did two pieces of modern art above the bed.

I went with the storage party on the floor in order to save the necessary space. This also allowed them to choose an extendable dining table from Furniture Republic so that they can accommodate additional dishes when they have guests over. The chairs are from West Elm, while the colorful prints are from Monnar Baldemor.

I also had a ceiling mounted bar rack designed to display drinks and glassware. My clients love to entertain as much as they love to cook so this was the perfect choice for them.

I wanted them to have glass shelves so that the light from the ceiling would shine through to the counter, but my clients chose a plywood base.

Note my flooring choice: I went with premium vinyl tile (LVT) for the living and dining areas. I am very interested in LVTs now as they are easy to install, easy to replace if damaged. But it cannot be easily damaged because it is made of hard metal – unlike the old vinyl records. They are also waterproof, fireproof, ideal for light and heavy foot traffic (I also specified it for some commercial projects).

I had the cabinets and ceiling made by a modular cabinet supplier. While the results look good, I’m not really happy with their customer service (We had a lot of issues with them!). Suffice to say I will not be using them again.

I used 60x60cm ceramic tiles in the kitchen with a nice concrete finish, to strengthen the room.
