For a better illustration, let’s look at the kitchen design for the Abode Hamlet project. While creating the floor plans for this home improvement, I created a few preliminary plans for the entire home. In the interview, I offer various design options for the kitchen layout. Once the client has selected the option they want to go with, working with the floor plan, I work out the elevation options and make minor changes to the plans to accommodate the design details. From there we modeled the space so that the clients could see it in 3d (shown below).

Although the .01 is only a subtle difference, there are many ways to interpret the range hood, especially when it comes to hood and upper cabinet design. Notice how I draped part of the wall above the sink cabinet to create depth and interest. Why do I do this? In the initial stages of floor plan design for all home renovations, my goal is to design the floor plans exactly as I envision them. Then once the floor plan is chosen by the client, at the elevation, I get very specific with the design, adding interesting details to the aesthetic the client wants to achieve.
