Kitchen Island With Sink Decorating Ideas

Kitchen Island With Sink Decorating Ideas – I’ve been putting off organizing the area around the kitchen sink for years, but it was a mistake! Now this important part of our kitchen is organized and it only took a few minutes.

The condition of our kitchen island is the most important indicator of how well we will organize our home on any given day.

When the dishes and mail pile up, it creates a crazy chain reaction of clutter. But the reverse is also true. As we keep the island and get down clean, my instinct suddenly flips and I find myself stopping to fix the rest of the stairs before bed or between work tasks.

10 Items To Style Your Kitchen Island With

Even though it’s been years since I noticed this relationship between the island and the rest of the house, I haven’t spent enough time implementing products and processes to facilitate it. Until now!!!

On any given day, the sink looked like this. A few items collect in the sink, and a knife for washing hands and a meat thermometer are almost constantly on the counter. Obviously we care about keeping them out of the water, but not so much that we always wash them and put them away right after dinner. #adultfailure

The mess with the soap dispensers and sponges didn’t do anything for our decor either. Then there was the issue of drainage. They used to be oil-rubbed bronze, but most of the finish has worn off. No matter how much I clean them, they always look dirty. There’s not much incentive to clean the sink if you’re not happy with the way the drain looks.

I am honored to be a part of InterDesign’s new affiliate program for bloggers. You’ve seen me use their products over the years, especially the tiered organizer I use under my bathroom sink. I’m excited about the new collaboration and knew it was the perfect brand to rule my sink.

I used InterDesign Axis bronze sink strainers to hide most of the discoloration. It’s the perfect disguise until we’re ready to replace the sink and drain.

The strainers are functional, they help the sink look better. The strainer part is flexible and makes it very easy to discard stuck-on food directly into the container.

Next, I was ready for an alternative to knives on the counter and stemless glasses that keep falling into the sink.

The InterDesign Metro Dish Dryer might just be my new best friend. I can go to the sink to safely collect the dirty dishes out of sight….

I started with the Formbu dressing table. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box to find the perfect organization solution!  I added the Clarity Scrub Hub which has room for 2 sponges and drainage holes at the bottom.

For the soap, I chose the gorgeous InterDesign Casilla soap dispensers in blue. I couldn’t resist marking them with my vinyl cutter.  Aren’t they cute?

Foamers are also a great way to stretch your soaps – fill them with 1 part soap to 5 parts water!

Everything is neatly collected in a tray, and the cleaning water flows from the work surface. Beauty + function for the win!

Spring Home Tour

The last change I made to the sink area is a silicone drying mat that doubles as a paddle (up to 570°F). It is ideal for hand-washable pans.

I had purchased a clothes drying mat in the past, but I wasn’t excited about having another item of laundry.  Being able to quickly sanitize this one in the sink works so much better!

As another option, I can use the dryer directly on the rug instead of over the sink.

To keep the work surface free when we’re not washing dishes, I put the dryer on the handle of the dishwasher. But it is completely flexible and can be folded up for storage anywhere.

I am in awe of how neat the kitchen looks now from all sides! So far we’ve done a great job keeping the island clean, which means nothing else has gone bad. Hooray!

I have a new system for mail clutter than before to affect the island as well. I’ll be sharing it on this week’s Friday Fast Fix!
