Living Room Decorating Ideas – Not sure how to decorate an open concept home? I’ve been there! Today I’m excited to partner with The Home Depot to share living room decorating ideas to create a space you’ll love. Whether you’re looking to style your media console, fill an empty corner, or add some coziness to your space, I hope you find these tips helpful.

When we moved into a new house five years ago, I was grateful to have a large living room in the center of our home. But it’s also a challenge because we see it all day, every day. I wanted it to be beautiful and functional, but I didn’t know how to manage all the space! Also, our TV and media console needed to be front and center, a common design dilemma. After years of working on this room, I finally achieved some of my long term goals!

Here are some pictures of our living room this spring. I worked in this space for years and there was a lot to love! But also things to work on.

Small Living Room Decorating Ideas — Peony Street

I’m a complete newbie when it comes to DIY home projects involving power tools. However, after watching some friends install their wall model, I wanted to give it a try. I decided to make a picture frame because it is a classic style and relatively easy to install.

I plan to share a more detailed post on how I installed the wall molding in the coming weeks, but if you’re ready to tackle this project, I’d love to list the products I use! Home Depot had everything we needed to transform our space and bring my vision to life.

Once the wall decorations were in place, I was ready to work on our decor. Here are my living room decorating ideas to elevate your space with statement pieces.

In my opinion, this is the best way to fill an empty corner in your living room. We used to have an olive tree so I decided to switch things up with this gorgeous artificial cherry blossom tree. The texture and movement it adds is great!

Our light wood coffee table surrounded by white furniture didn’t work. I wanted more contrast! This walnut coffee table warms up the living room, and the pivoting legs add a sculptural element. It also came fully assembled, which is always a plus for me.

I also added an antique brass table next to our couch. It’s longer than our old updated table and adds contrast to the metal space. Changing out accent tables is a great way to change the look of your living room without replacing large pieces of furniture!

The wall molding made a big difference, but I still wanted to find a way to fill the space to the left of our media console. Our house has arches throughout the main floor and I thought this 71″ x 32″ arched window was the perfect compliment. Even my kids love making faces in it 😉 The mirror reflects our gallery wall so well! Can’t get enough of this look.

Once you’ve chosen your statement pieces and filled in the empty corners, it’s time to think about accents. They’re great for adding comfort and character with accents, and Home Depot has tons of options!

Black And White Christmas Living Room Decor

I like to keep my table decor simple with a large vase and coffee table books. This ceramic bowl vase has a great structure and won’t topple over if my kids fall on the table. Have you noticed that I can’t turn off my mom’s brain?

As for the media console, I decided to change things up with a big light. I’ve had my eye on this large rattan table lamp for months and was excited to add it to our space! Pairing it with this empire shade created a vintage look. The gray planter and charcoal bowl fill the space under the TV and I love this wood chain accent. Finally, these decorative boxes are perfect for remote controls.

Is there any decor more fun to shop for than pillows? I love the texture of these crochet pillows and these classic throws. This tufted edge blanket was perfect for the back of the couch and helps keep our kitchen clean since it’s just steps away!

I finished off the left side of the living room with a large bin for extra throws. Cute baskets are our favorite way to hide toys, slippers and tablets around our house. You can also try combining two different bins for a stacked look.

When we moved in, this space didn’t have much. It was a small square box with no character. The pluses were the large windows that let in a lot of light and the wooden floors.

Fall Living Room Decor Ideas That Save Money And Time

The downsides are the old floor heaters and the chandelier that went in every time we passed the room.

This 10×10 room is in our small entryway at the front of the house. We are sure the previous and only owners used this as their dining area. We don’t need another dining area so it will serve as a lounge/sitting area for now.

The first project I tackled in this room was to get rid of the chandelier and the two heaters. We don’t need heaters and they are just ugly so I removed them and fixed all the holes and damaged walls.

I also removed the old thermostat and filled that hole as well as all the other holes and studs.

Next it was to tape all the trim and windows (old house stuff) and then prep the cut.

At this point in the project I was ready to get some paint on the walls. First, I applied a bright white paint to the ceiling. What a difference it made!

The floor also got two coats of the same color I used on the rest of the house, Behr Polar Bear mixed with BM Advance.

Finally, it’s time to paint the wall. I used this house to experiment with different glosses, ie. soft white colors with a matte finish. The walls of this house have a lot of imperfections, so I was hoping a matte finish would minimize them.

The paint color I chose for this room was BM White Dove in Matte. I’ve used White Dove in decorating before and always liked it, so I went with it again.

I couldn’t believe how much this soft white brightened up the room. It was painted a medium gray… well. The soft white color really made a big difference.

I tried to add a little character to every room I renovated in this simple 1965 farmhouse, and I did it on a budget. The entrance got a new door and interesting wallpaper. There is a necklace in the breakfast nook.

In this room, it was necessary to form directly, to form a picture frame. This is my first time doing a project like this, but it was really easy to do. Figuring out the math to calculate the distance between the boxes turned out to be the hardest part of the whole project.

At first I wanted to do the whole room, then it was 2 walls. In the end I only went with 1 wall, the sofa wall. I think it was the right call because it’s the first thing you see when you walk into the room. I love what this has done for this space.
