Luxury Apartment Interior Design Ideas – There is no universal definition of luxury. The concept itself means different things to different people. And it’s the same when it comes to luxury apartments. For some people, this term is about having a lot of space. For others, it’s about elegance. Comfort, quality and exclusivity are also often key features.
Therefore, before embarking on any high-end design project, it is important to identify exactly what matters most to the client. Luxury apartments are no exception. Luxury is not necessarily synonymous with a particular style or color scheme. Rather, it is a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, shapes, materials, textures, and accessories. Luxury apartments can be large or small, minimalist or elaborate, monochrome or colorful. It’s a fluid aesthetic that is almost always greater than the sum of its parts.

Getting to know and truly understand each client is the best way to create a design that reflects their personality and embodies their vision. Detailed discussions and mood boards can be very helpful in designing a comprehensive initial proposal. Incorporating as many elements as possible, even at this early stage, will pay dividends later. So from the beginning, we encourage clients to think cohesively about key aspects such as layout, furniture, color schemes and lighting. In this way, we can make practical suggestions in advance, which will help the whole project really “come together” in the end.
Maximizing natural light, carefully choosing furniture sizes and minimizing clutter are tried and tested ways to create a more luxurious look.
Space planning and layout is often one of the first things that affects luxury apartments. How does the client want to use their space? This is especially important if the total area is limited. And the views are key. Get this right, and a small plan can be significantly larger. So whether you’re designing for a large, open space or compact with smaller rooms, custom furniture placement is key. How much is really needed? How big should the individual pieces be? Be ruthless. Less is often more, and clutter of any description rarely leads to a luxurious look. So treat the footprint of custom-made furniture as carefully as any other item.
The art of illusion is especially useful for luxury apartments that are considered more compact. High ceilings, for example, are often associated with spacious and luxurious homes. Obviously, we can’t wave a magic wand and physically change the ceiling height of an apartment. But hanging curtains as high as possible (rather than just directly above the window) is a quick and effective way to draw the eye upwards and create the impression of extra space.

The right color scheme can make or break any luxury apartment. Keeping the color palette largely neutral is an easy way to add instant style to a living space. Popular shades include white, white, gray and taupe. You can always add interest with specific pops of brighter/deeper colors. We chose a predominantly monochromatic color scheme for the luxury penthouse renovation we recently supervised in London’s High Street Kensington. We decorated the entire apartment in various soft/dark/muted shades of gray and white, complemented by the occasional blue touch.
A cohesive color scheme of elegant whites and grays exudes luxury throughout our Kensington High Street apartment project.
Color psychology is such an interesting science. Although there are certain accepted conventions, there are also important exceptions. Different people can react to the same colors in different ways, so it’s important to understand that there are no absolutes. It’s also vital to consider what a space (sanctuary/work/exercise) will be used for – in addition to the client’s individual tastes and personality – to establish an appropriate color scheme, luxury or otherwise.
At Moretti Interior Design we think it is essential to include the lighting plan for your interiors at the beginning of the creation process. Start by assessing the amount of natural light available. Maximizing daylight is a great way to introduce a luxurious feel to any property. Next, consider how much artificial light you need to complement this natural light and the different types. Work, ambience, mood and architectural lighting are key to transforming a space, influencing mood and helping a home function. The right lighting can also accentuate features such as height, recesses and textures. And it can definitely make an apartment look and feel more luxurious.

Exclusive lighting, such as this installation in our Nine Elms project, can add an instant luxurious look and feel to any apartment.
Our expertise in lighting was one of the many reasons we were chosen to design a luxury apartment in the increasingly popular Nine Elms area of Battersea, London. A key aspiration for this beautiful project was for the apartment to “feel like home” right away. We use a combination of contemporary and subtle lighting to help achieve this and create a bright, elegant and classy aesthetic.
Art has always been associated with luxury, and the right artwork (paintings and sculptures) is a great way to introduce a high-quality element to luxury apartments. Prioritize important areas such as living rooms and dining rooms. And make sure all artwork is well placed and well lit. Wall art not only adds a touch of luxury; it’s also a great way for customers to project their personality. For example, for our Nine Elms project, we proposed an exploratory theme, to reflect the client’s love of travel. This displayed an impressive map of world artwork, filling an entire wall of WHAT ROOM?
Luxury and personality can be perfectly compatible. See how we introduced an explorer theme in this room of our Nine Elms apartment project, with a world map on the wall, to reflect the client’s love of travel.

The right artwork, including mirrors, prints, paintings and sculptures, add an air of luxury to any apartment, large or small, classic or contemporary.
You don’t have to limit artwork to paintings or posters. Beautiful statement mirrors can also function as pieces of art. And they are not just decorative. For example, a mirror is another clever strategy to make a small space seem larger than it actually is. Although not generally considered works of art in themselves, investing in rugs can also make luxury apartments look more sophisticated and refined. Explore different colors and textures to add dimension to the space. And for an easy win that won’t break the bank, simply feature some fresh flower displays. Go big with a central statement or spread several smaller bouquets around a selection of different rooms.
