Modern Front Porch Design Ideas – My front porch design has evolved over time, including replacing the double entry doors, installing a brass doorbell, adding artificial plants, and adding lighting to add visual impact to the space.

Isn’t it nice? Let me help you see exactly how great it is compared to where we started five years ago.
When we first moved in, there were storm doors on the double-timbered front doors. They were flimsy and didn’t add much visual interest, so I quickly removed them. Then, I tried to spruce up the space by adding some decor (a DIY outdoor rug and some plants).
A few months later, I made some pie house numbers, DIY stickers on the door, and added a few other pieces (like the deck and wall).

As you can see from this throwback photo, the temple was out of control, the doors looked great from a distance, but the handles were wrong, and overall the place just looked dated.
The decoration of the balcony remained in this phase for several years. Here’s your reminder that projects take time.
Two years ago we decided to change the front doors. We discussed saving them, but in the end they were not saved and rehabilitated. The new look of the glass and dark doors made the front even more attractive. Plus, it added some much needed light to our yard.
As you can see here, the front porch decor has also changed a bit. As much as I loved those plants by the door, they just didn’t stay. We have so many bushes and deer here (and deer too – we live by a lake) that I go outside every day and those plants fall to the ground.

Then I decided to upgrade the doorbell button. This was the easiest and cheapest project and I love it!
Finally, there was only one last thing to update (besides the decor, which is always changing) and that is the lighting. Some of you liked the light. and although they are very high quality and unusual, they just didn’t speak to me.

When I changed the lighting, I decided to replace the old plants I had made, as well as upgrade to the large artificial bushes I bought. They all came together very well. One thing I really had in mind for creating the front porch was to make sure to choose things that would go with all seasons. The front door hinges will definitely change when it gets a little warmer in the spring and so will the flowers. Other than that, the rest is timeless.
As I become more and more involved with home improvement projects, I know my style is a balance between modern and classic tradition. I like to find a balance, and although it can be difficult at times, I think a modern front porch is the perfect balance of how my style and home aesthetics meet.

This is a loooooong wraparound porch. The side section is basically a transition to the auditorium, so we didn’t need seats there; but the part of the balcony facing the yard should be used well.
