Ornament Ideas To Make At Home – Every year I make one special ornament (or group of ornaments) with my girls. I love this tradition for the memories we create together and the growing nostalgia and messy decorations.
There are thousands of ways to decorate a Christmas tree, but is there anything more nostalgic, warm and cozy than children’s crafts? No way.

First, let’s talk about air dry clay. I love the magic of modeling and I always have it on hand for those moments when the kids do it.

It’s a lighter and messier version of salt dough. This past weekend I made these Santa ornaments (so cute – the design was inspired by @ashchaber on Instagram).
Here’s another example of Nova’s design magic ornaments from our Christmas party. We made one of these for our daughters first Christmas. Here is the process used:
The Santa decoration process is pretty much the same, except I cut the outer edges of the clay (with scissors) after taking the handprints.
I added the initials and the year to each ornament using a rubber stamp. Then I painted it after it was completely dry.
How To Decorate A Natural & Neutral Christmas Tree
We found these paint frames at a craft store ( similar here ). I love collecting holiday supplies. I’ve found that you can use them year after year, so if you don’t use all of your supplies, save them for next year.
This is one of Nova’s first ornaments when she was 3 years old. He was old enough to draw a frame. Once they were dry I made a stamp for her and then we added the pom pom balls together.
This photo was taken a few days after Nova was adopted. We adopted her in early December so her first Christmas was right after we got home.
