Flipping through my guide, I find that a sketch sparks an idea or reminds me of a die that might have a similar effect.  I rarely follow a map sketch in its entirety.

My method starts with the paper pad – usually a 6″ x 6″ pad or a 6″ x 8″ pad.

First I scratch all the pages and put them in order on the table.  Since there are usually two of each design with an alternate design on the back, I combined these two.  Each side of the paper together.

This works well for some pads like the Echo Park.  One side of the paper is busy and the other is completed with a more subtle pattern. 

I am a firm believer in NOT reinventing the wheel!  The designer of the booklet has worked hard to make sure all the patterns match, so let’s do the hard work of making cards using your suggestions.

When I use pillows like this, I use the subtle design as the bottom layer and the busy design on top.

I cut my plain colored cardstock base layers to match the colors of the paper pack, always the size of the card base.

Next I lay out all the ephemera and put them in groups: all the feelings together, all the images together, etc.

The first map is always the hardest, but once you get into the flow, it just feels like it’s rolling.

I create the maps in the base layer.  Leave the final glue on the card bases until the end.

With a clear desk, I add the card fronts to my card bases.  When I need quick birthday cards, I use pre-cut and die-cut cards.

And for the Landscape folding cards, I use Tonic Studios card blocks and envelopes.  The quality of these card packs is amazing.  I wait until they are on sale before I stock up.

Once they are all assembled, I place them back on the table and add a little shimmer with the Nuvo Aqua Shimmer pen and the Nuvo Crystal Glaze.  I prefer crystal polish over glittery accents – it’s what works for me!

I try to use the sentiments provided in the ephemera pack, but they don’t always fit your design or what you want to say.

So, for speed and efficiency I use ready-made stickers.  For these cards I used Tim Holtz Sentiment Label Stickers.
