Pine Cone Decoration Ideas Diy – I have a thing for pinecones. I don’t know what it is, I find them fascinating. I’m also not a very colorful person, and I prefer dull neutral colors. If you’ve seen my house you’ll know what I mean – lots of beige, and then you go into the next room to find even more beige. Sometimes I can surprise you with a little gray.
I’ve wanted to make pinecone garlands for a while, but couldn’t figure out how to successfully attach wooden skewers to the stems. Then it hit me. Exercise! Duh if I could make a shallow hole in the bottom of each tree hat, I’m sure a little hot glue would hold the skewers in place. I’m happy to say, it worked like a charm, and I’m going to show you how!

I have received many questions and comments about how to get rid of possible insects and bacteria from pinecones. I live in Arizona and I always have to buy herbs, but if you’re gathering them from your yard, you can cook them in a sheet pan at 250°F for 30-60 minutes, depending on size and moisture. Check every 10 minutes to make sure they don’t burn, and give them plenty of time to cool when you take them out of the oven.
How To Make Frosted Pinecone Christmas Tree Ornaments
Step 1 Begin by digging a shallow hole at the base of each plant. You want it deep enough to secure the wooden skewers with hot glue, so you don’t need to go over 1/8 inch.
Step 2 Decorate the trees in your favorite colors. I chose to paint the tips with some acrylic paint to let the natural colors of the pinecone come through. You can go crazy with spray paint, glitter, or even a little fake snow. It’s time to bring out your inner artist!
Step 3 When the paint is dry, working with one pinecone at a time, place a generous amount of hot glue into each pre-drilled hole and then immediately place the smooth side of the skewer inside. I held each skewer for 20 seconds to make sure it was dry in place before moving on to the next one.
Step 4 If you plan to arrange it with ribbon, I recommend placing a piece of floral foam at the bottom of your ribbon so your pinecone flowers will follow. They are heavier than real flowers and tend to rise, especially if your container has a wide mouth.

Step 5 To arrange the flower, start by inserting a pinecone stem full length directly into the center of the foam, then cut the remaining skewers if necessary to create a natural looking system. I also added some fake white berry filling when I was done, and I think it makes a big difference. Adding some type of foliage is a piece of cake! Try using leafy branches or small pieces of pine garland.
I made this as part of my Christmas decorations, but you could easily keep something fall-themed by using orange and yellow colors and throwing in some fall leaves. How beautiful would that be as the centerpiece of your Thanksgiving table!
This project turned out much better than I expected! It was cheap, easy and fun to make, plus I love the way it looks on the coffee table in my room at Christmas time. I can arrange a non-holiday pinecone to enjoy the rest of the year.
You can also use some pinecone flowers from the stem to add to a vase of fresh flowers.
How To Make A Simple And Beautiful Diy Pinecone Wreath
I’m just a girl who loves making fun things and making simple recipes in the kitchen. This is an easy project that you can complete in a few hours depending on how many you want to make.
It’s time for the monthly handicraft community gathering with Wendy of WM Design House. If you are thinking about Handy community. More Pinecone Craft Ideas! Love The…
Pinecones are useful for many seasonal crafts. We begin to enjoy the early fall, holidays and winter months. They always look very beautiful in combination with other natural things, every year we find more ways to decorate them.
For this project, I’m using mostly small pinecones that range from half an inch to an inch and a quarter in size. Shelled nuts compliment the pine trees by adding a contrast of colors and patterns.
The first step is the base of the cone tree. I cut a 2.5″ x 4″ cylinder into three pieces and then hot glued it to the base of each cone. I find that using a serrated knife is easiest when cutting styrofoam. (You can skip this step if you want your trees to sit nicely on the table.)
The next step is to attach the brown fabric using your hot glue to cover your corner. The cloth provides a good surface for placing the pinecones and nuts. It also creates a dark background, so you can’t see the light green styrofoam through small cracks or voids.
How To Make Christmas Decorations Ornaments With Pine Cones?
To decorate, start at the base of the cone using your hot glue gun to attach small herbs, nuts, herbs and cinnamon sticks in a random pattern. Then go ahead and lift the cone to full coverage.
By the way, cinnamon sticks may not be easy to break in half, so I suggest using garden shears. If the cinnamon sticks are too thin, try stacking a few pieces together to get the look you want.
Small pecans are really good for filling small spaces, as well as lawns and hats. I think you will find the opened nuts to add interest with their unique shapes, colors and designs. Because almond is the lightest color, I tried to space them out to balance the overall look of the trees.
The last step covers the base of the tree. I’m using brown ribbon to wrap around the styrofoam base while keeping the pins straight. You can also use hot glue if you don’t have pins.

Pinecones will fit almost perfectly into a table, shelf, rug or use as a centerpiece. I think they are beautiful to use on their own or in groups with greens. You can also mix it with other types of maple trees for a compact look.
I currently have them sitting on an ottoman in the living room on a plate, but I might try an entryway table. You should come back to my Christmas tour in a few weeks for more ideas.
If you have supplies left over from this project you can use them until your next project.
