Room Ideas For College Girl

Room Ideas For College Girl – My daughter left campus this year and lives in an apartment with several other girls. . Let’s start our tour from there!

The star of the show in this room is definitely the beautiful botanical art on the walls. I still had a lot of pages in the book that I used for my botanical gallery wall in the kitchen, so I cut a few more pieces. (My exact book varies greatly in price, but you can use any botany book or search online for free printable images to get a similar look.)

I picked up some gingham prints from the summer collection at Hobby Lobby for basic clearance. They were a few dollars each and I thought they would be cute and expensive for a girl’s apartment grouped together with some art on them. . wood cut to size. The design and color options are endless! I also bought plain black frames from Hobby Lobby for the prints (which are also a good set) and mounted each print on cardstock like a blanket. A small drop of hot glue on each corner glued the black frame together.

I originally ordered neutral curtain panels, but we all agreed that the room needed some color, so this coral pink set was perfect. They sold out pretty quickly when I purchased them, but I’m happy to see they’ve been restocked! They were so cheap that I ordered another set after taking these photos so I could sew two panels and make them both wider – they needed to be a little wider to fit completely in the window. An 84-inch length would have worked for this window, but I ordered a 95-inch so I could hang them a little higher, and I thought Emily might use them in a future home with tall windows. I found the rug at Ross, but it’s really similar

The apartment is furnished with mostly larger furniture, but I found a TV stand on FB Marketplace and brought a few small accent pieces from home. I also found a FBMP corner floor lamp and upcycled a table lamp, then painted them both black to match the room.

These pillowcases matched the curtains perfectly. The apartment has a great floor plan with a kitchen, an open living area, and a small dining table at the other end of the kitchen.

I designed a curtain panel that I intended to cut to make bar style curtains for the kitchen window, but it didn’t turn out to be a practical idea. Instead, I used fabric to add something to the window and this foam board covered the cornice. Here’s a quick guide to planning for you. The HL liquidation gain was also a positive sign.

If you’ve already seen her bedroom setup, remember that we put this branded light above the bedside table, but it would be more interesting in the main living area. I hung it on the empty wall near the kitchen table with an old mirror I saved (it was green!) and got a garland.

Between moving, cleaning, decorating, and then more decorating, I think I went back 3 times. So it was the end of a long, hot day, but we were very happy to have it in a new space!

I posted some photos of her bedroom a few months ago ( here and here ), but since then we’ve made some small changes and moved a few things around, so here’s another look. We used some risers under the bed frame and they were perfect for covering all the stuff hidden under the long plain skirt. 😉

I made this DIY monogram project last year for his room, but this year I painted the initials to add some color. The curtain lights were a fun addition to the dim lights and she loves her new pinstripe quilt and cute pillow!

When Mark moved the light to another room we hung his favorite cat print and yes, he still loves the old school loud alarm clock!

I love the built-in shelves and cabinets that have storage in each of these rooms!

We’ve added a few decorative items to her shelves, but mostly they are her “stuff” that she uses on display every day, with smaller related items in the bins. He loves the desk chair – we moved the uncomfortable one that had been placed in the living room to have more space.

I picked up a pair of neutral curtains at a yard sale that were perfect for her window (after cutting them in half lengthwise and gluing them down! – here’s a pair that’s just as cheap). She wanted to put on some makeup, so I got her a makeup mirror. After taking these photos, I asked her to move the blanket basket to the other side of the room and tape it across her chest so she had more leg room – it worked great!

Unsurprisingly, their apartment smelled a little damp, so I had scattered the bags of coal around the rooms. They really help absorb odors and you can put them in the sun for an hour or two every month to freshen them up. This kit comes with some hooks that you can hang as an option, a really great product!

I received these boxes of FBMP a few days ago before moving it. The price was right, but someone hadn’t bothered to cover it before painting the room white, so it had paint splatters and a few rough spots. I polished the handles with my favorite brass polish and toothbrush, then gave it a quick sanding and a fresh coat of paint (here’s a project guide with the gel stains I used). It turned out really nice and gave her that extra drawer space that she so needed.

In just a few weeks, we planned to move my daughter’s dorm room into her freshman year dorm (in case you missed it, check out my favorite dorm room accessories with tub, bed, desk, and bits and pieces furniture we found during the search). There is definitely a night and day difference when going to college with dorms now!

My daughter had a bedroom full of comfortable pillows and throws in shades of gray and purple. What she didn’t want was for her space to be too messy or take more than a few hours to put together (translation: I was no more allowed than other parents to set up and decorate her room. 🙂). It’s done and done! We were both thrilled with how it turned out!

Here’s how it all started: a perfectly typical small living room with a loft bed, a desk and a chest of drawers:

If I had to pick one thing that had the biggest impact on the room, it would be our coat rack – it’s gorgeous and took about ten minutes to hang. It’s SUPER reasonably priced, so the value for money is truly exceptional!

College Dorm Room Essentials

We initially hung using double-sided Velcro command strips, but they didn’t stick to the gubernia as we hoped, so we did pretty well.

Wall decals aren’t just for dorm rooms: They’re cheap if you have a bare wall in one of your kids’ rooms.
