I started seeing this concept late last year, when I discovered artist and designer Joshua Vides on Instagram.
As you can see, the idea here is that the way the pen lines are drawn on the shoe almost makes it look like they were drawn or carved on paper and look 2-D. Like an optical illusion. This framework is a common thread throughout Weeds’ career, though it’s really his custom Air Force 1s that steal the show.

This sick design by @Mattbcustoms is a great way to customize it. By painting only the panels, you can focus on small details. In addition, it gives the shoes a more refined look and makes it look like they were cut right in the Nike store.

This Blue Pen AF1 design is all kinds of awesome, and the fact that it’s an incredibly cool drawing overall may have something to do with it. Even if you don’t want to go into that much graphic detail, doodling on an AF1 and writing with a gel pen can lead to something that looks really cool and accurate, as I found in this image.
